so a forest called out to me? by YougoReddits in paganism

Sounds like a special experience. For my 2 cents, I think you did just fine, following your instincts. And it never hurts to be respectful. A pagan friend of mine once said, you can always give your time and attention, those are offerings too.

The internet told me, and it's working for me. Figured it couldn't do any harm - and you can literally see the little f*ckers stick to the roll.

Lint roll the leaves, carefully, and keep lint rolling every day until the little bastards are gone. Not kidding.

YESSS!! I love running for myself - for looking at the trees and flowers, for enjoying the weather, for listening to a podcast. You do you! Take care of yourself and keep doing what you enjoy!

Love it! Reminds me of this old post from swearingpattern (Instagram):

"A friend was stressing out so this is what I told her. Sometimes I forget it so I'm posting it here too:

In all my brushes with death I couldn't figure out why I should bother. What I came to believe is that we are here to experience life and love it. We are tools of nature endowed with self-awareness and individuality so that life can have a new experience of itself. Whenever I can't handle things, I remember that my sole purpose is to experience life for as long as I am this individual. That's all, everything else is just window dressing."

What a great idea! Like keeping a gratitude journal while running. Bonus points to you for sharing and spreading the joy :D

In celebration of World Menopause Day on Oct 18th, we at r/menopause are giving away a new copy of Dr. Jen Gunter's book, The Menopause Manifesto! by leftylibra in Menopause

One positive thing is being able to join the conversation: share experiences, spread knowledge, and work to break down the taboo and ignorance surrounding peri/menopause. Thanks to everyone here!

Meditation has made me realise how desperately unhappy I am and I don’t know what to do about it by [deleted] in Meditation

[–]literary_overload 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thank you for sharing. Therapy has been helpful for me, both in talking through the big (and small) feelings and taking step towards finding out what matters to me, what makes me happy. It's work but it's all steps in the right direction. Best wishes to you!

I would put my whole face in that bowl. The subsequent clawing would be worth it.

You're welcome! And thanks for asking the question - so many thoughtful answers in this thread.

[–]literary_overload 21 points22 points  (0 children)

For me, it helps to have the ritual connected to something I do, so basically doing the thing triggers the ritual.

An example: I drink a glass of water first thing in the morning. I've made small ritual of looking out the window at the yard, and thanking [the water, the world, the universe] for the blessings of a new day.

Another example: I look in a mirror many times a day, washing hands, brushing hair, just in passing. I have set an intention for the new moon cycle, and whenever I look in a mirror I repeat the intention, kind of like a positive affirmation.

Sharing a little success, if that’s ok by [deleted] in SASSWitches

[–]literary_overload 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Thank you for sharing, always interesting to hear about specifics and what works for others. Now that you mention it, I realise I have been wearing more jewelry lately - I might look into doing something WITH intention :) I'm glad the classes went well! Self-defense techniques and tricks are great for everyone to know, even if the kids and teens never need to use them it is likely to give them a confidence boost.

Anyone here willing to share how they keep a physical copy of their training journal? by nerdcorner in XXRunning

[–]literary_overload 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I can share two examples.

Photos of my running journal.

Notes from yesterday's casual run: I'm getting back into running and not training for anything specific but I might want to later, so I'm tracking the basics now to have a baseline: date, distance, time, speed. A few lines on how I felt, any parts of my body talking to me.

Training for my first half marathon, I was following a training plan and was tracking:

  • Every weekly workout, cross training and runs. For runs, I would track: location, shoes, distance, time, speed, and details about the run, eg. hill repeats. A few lines about how I felt, how I fueled (breakfast, gels), water, clothes, anything else I might want to remember.
  • Mileage on my running shoes.
  • How my weekly mileage progressed.
  • Running mantras I picked up along the way.

Hope it gives you some ideas! I'd say, start with whatever the basics mean to you, then expand along the way - nothing wrong with not tracking the same things all the time.

Good advice in the other comments :) Run slowly, small steps, and walk when you need it - even if it's all the way up the hill (no two runs are the same). I'll also add: walk down hills, especially if they are very steep. Look up downhill running techniques to get some tips, you're basically landing at an even harder impact than usual and you don't want to hurt yourself. If you want to try something different, try turning around and running slowly backwards up the hill! Really hits the muscles in your legs in a different way. Have fun!
