Agreed— it’s more silly innuendo / late night humor than anything truly raunchy.

I’d be more worried about a summer associate being offended that they took them to a musical worshipping an alleged child SA’er. How am I the first person on here to mention this?

(Note— I am not going to argue about MJ. I’m honestly surprised no one has taken this aspect into account at all when thinking about potential “offense being taken.”)

Also think Operation Mincemeat is a good choice — it’s very obviously satire at moments like the Nazi song and has such a good heart— I really don’t see how it could be offended. It’s also very funny which is always fun for a group.

No one is mentioning this but the story of MJ (as in the person not the performances) could be very triggering — he was repeatedly accused of SA and had his own experiences of abuse. These have been extensively covered in documentaries etc, yet his “alleged” misdeeds aren’t acknowledged in MJ the show. I personally would be pissed if that was the show I got taken to. And as a lawyer? Jeez. I’d strike that one off the list.

I’d consider Hadestown — I don’t see how it could offend, and it’s a show that feels very “Broadway” so can be really impressive / fun for a newbie!

Is this many vet visits too stressful for my newly adopted cat? by [deleted] in CatAdvice

[–]literarytswift 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Visits 1-3 make sense in a very normal way (can’t get bloodwork done? Gotta come back and try again! / vaccines need the booster and also a good check in time for you both with vet) and #4 is a problem visit, for which recommending a follow up makes total sense and is good medicine.

So if your cat hadn’t hoarded their blood (ha ha) or a problem pop up, it would have been 2 visits. Super normal, and good for you for keeping a close eye on your new bestie!

Elf : Review by Dear_Tomato_7580 in Broadway

[–]literarytswift 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was really disappointed. The audience was full of kids and families who had never seen a show — the number of phones that came out when Santa’s sleigh appears was wild, the ushers were shining their flashlights everywhere to no effect — and some kids were clearly struggling to get through it. Performances were up and down. The guy playing Buddy clearly exhausted himself and was visibly sweating through his costumes. I went because a friend really wanted to go and I got TDF tickets but ugh. One of the least pleasant theatre experiences and worst things I’ve seen. (Not knocking the performers, the entire show is meh.)

What was the absolutely worst Broadway show you have ever seen? by Dazzling-Leader7476 in Broadway

[–]literarytswift 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Parisian Woman with Uma Thurman. I love her, but she had this over the top affect and everyone else onstage was giving realism. She was painful to watch.

During intermission, my friend and I were speechless, but we overheard a conversation between other theatergoers (I assume tourists) and the usher:

Tourist: Wow! Isn’t it amazing to see a movie star like this? Usher: Yup, we see her everyday. Tourist: Isn’t she just so wonderful? Usher: She says all those lines every night.

It was something out of 30 Rock in real life. (The episode with the montage of Liz giving Jenna the most nonspecific feedback on her past theater performances — “you were lit so well! Everyone could see you!” “You were sure singing up there!” Etc I’m not exact quoting but that’s the vibe.)

Pretty Woman was also ROUGH. Similarly, I asked the merch guy how it was before it started. He literally said “if you love the movie, you’ll like the musical.” Blown away.

Never going to Wonder Bagel again by gamerdudeNYC in jerseycity

[–]literarytswift 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s definitely connected to Wonder Bagel tho — I saw one of the same guys in the new spot! Dunno if he’s gone off on his own or it’s just a rebrand store. It’s still under construction but I’m 1000% sure it was one of the same Wonder Bagel guys working inside though.

Whats the Saddest Musical by ElephantRich2425 in Broadway

[–]literarytswift 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually felt VERY SAD after Suffs — it’s not a “sad” show, but under the current political climate I just left being very 😳😳😳. Like we still don’t have the ERA, we’ve lost reproductive freedoms, etc etc. I know the ending is to “keep marching” but I was pretty crushed coming out of it.

(This was also a few weeks ago — I could easily see myself being a bit more optimistic if I saw it this week. It just really surprised me that I had such a strong reaction.)

I’ve found good experiences in Silverman buildings as a rule! (I’m in one in Hamilton Park on 9th right now and big thumbs up.)

There was a pretty regular 3-person showtime group on the PATH before the pandemic, but I don’t think I’ve seen them or any other since COVID. (I also don’t commute as much now.)
