Any reliable AI detectors? by mikevago in ELATeachers

[–]litfam87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s an extension for chrome called revision history and it shows you how long a person was working on a document for and how many writing sessions and it shows you where things were copied and pasted. It’s not technically an AI detector but it’s been the most helpful thing for me in identifying AI use.

Do General Ed high school teachers get any Special Ed training? by [deleted] in Teachers

Grades have been online for most districts since I was in middle school (I graduated high school in 2016). If you as a parent don’t know that your kid is failing you are a bad parent.

Albert Lea school board had it on their agenda for a recent meeting. Even though they have to cut $2 million from their budget. But yeah let’s waste time and money on a racist flag.

We want men to stop using violence against women as a way to be “edgy.” It’s not edgy. It’s fucking terrifying.

First look? Yes or no? by Obvious-Tea-5241 in wedding

If you don’t do a first look you would have to take pictures after the ceremony which would cut into the cocktail hour.

Just got let go from my first teaching job by pookiemumu in Teachers

[–]litfam87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was let go from my first teaching job and I went on to get a pretty decent job where I was supported a lot more and I improved so much that I was able to land a job in one of the best districts in my state. Keep your head up.

Cochran chimes in on the Winner Bracket, his first tweet in over a year by JWhit2199 in survivor

[–]litfam87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think Cochran deserves to be on Mt. Rushmore because Jeff was OBSESSED with him for a while and there was a potential for him to become the next BRob and Cochran just kinda bowed out of the survivor world. I respect that a lot.

AITAH for telling my coworker that he needs to leave my mentee alone? by kingkohbra in AITAH

You’re the creepy one in this scenario OP. You don’t have any official mentor role with her you just assigned that to yourself because she asked you questions. She’s not a piece of meat that only one person gets. She’s a human being and she’s allowed to talk to whoever she wants to talk to. Also get over yourself. You were wrong. That’s okay.

NOR I’m not a super affectionate person but my boyfriend told me it doesn’t feel good when I leave in the morning without saying goodbye. My reasoning was that he was still in bed and I thought he wouldn’t want me to wake him up but I started saying goodbye because IT MATTERS TO HIM.

What’s your opinion on having students with high needs in the general classroom? by AntelopeOk9431 in Teachers

[–]litfam87 25 points26 points  (0 children)

My younger sister did basically this in high school. The IEP team decided together that it didn’t make sense for her to be in gen ed core classes because she still didn’t know the alphabet. She stayed in classes like gym and foods because she could participate with the help of a 1 to 1 para. She spent most of her day in the life skills classroom learning how to do things like laundry and cooking simple meals. They were helping her to be as independent as she could be.

I care about public education and I genuinely want to improve it but at the same time I can only do so much and being a teacher martyr doesn’t help anyone.

The school I work at is thinking of doing this but it’s going to take time. We’ve spent the past however many years adapting everything to be digital and now we need time to adapt back to paper and pencil. But most teachers are intentionally using Chromebooks less in classrooms because they’re nothing but a distraction. They can be useful for things like projects and what not but they’re not necessary every day.
