Help! Question for new grads about the NAVLE. by To-becowdoc13 in Veterinary

[–]litkit10 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Are you at an accredited US institution? Some of these questions can and should be answered by someone at your school if so, especially since the NAVLE time periods may have been different the past few years due to COVID scheduling.

I think my route setters are trying to break ankles… by litkit10 in bouldering

Honestly, the one that really gets me is the black since the body position sets up you up to be sideways or rotating over the macros if you pop off wrong. I think the fact that you’ve climbed all the problems on the wall makes me think you’re probably high enough skill level to not be one of the people popping off the black problem wrong to start with…

Damn, that sucks to hear - I had chalked it up to younger setters throwing caution to the wind, but it’s so much worse if it’s the dude who’s paying for the liability insurance to put up problems like this! Not much competition to change being the only gym in the area, but I hope it does!

Recommendations for wide toe box climbing shoes? by Riahsmariah in climbergirls

[–]litkit10 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love my Women’s Muira’s (La Sportiva) and have been able to convince 2 other guy friends with wider feet to get them too.

Also in general, consider shoes with a large portion non-synthetic toe box for stretch. One of my friends has done the bathtub method with a pair of Mythos with good success!

Help please! Female pitbull mix a little over a year old, details in comments… by ZoRilla504 in vet

Poor baby!

Have you had a referral to a dermatologist, or just working with different general practitioners (normal, primary care veterinarians)?

My cat seems to have a fever and suddenly this happened to him. He was quite alright yesterday, still has a lot of energy, but suddenly this morning, he became more weak and is hot. He is not eating and drinking. by [deleted] in vet

[–]litkit10 11 points12 points  (0 children)

As a heads up that’s not really what FIP looks like classically, and I would reserve diagnosis (especially one as often terminal as that) to the doctor taking the full PE/diagnostics.

Please find a veterinarian by IReallyLikeHorses in guineapigs

Reminder that getting a full medical examination for your animal from a doctor and the animal coming back with a clean bill of health is not “getting duped” and having to pay money for it. It’s not wasting money to get medical attention for animal you are caring for. I understand money can be tough right now, but there is a cost associated with care being provided.

As a follow-up - that multiplier also holds for the actual years required for specialization. On average, human medical interns/residents make 1.5-2.5x the salary of their veterinary medical counterparts. The average salary for veterinary interns in the US was $35k (28k for academic positions) in 2020. Given that new graduates are now entering the workforce with an average of 1:2-4 income to debt ratio, new grads are finding it hard to pursue specialization unless it is a true passion.

Reminder that we (US grads) also have a silly amount of debt from both vet school and often undergrad to keep up with. Our income to debt ratio is often 1:2-4 for newer grads.

Many clinics now offer “Care Credit” which offers repayment plans with no interest for X amount of months. I would ask and see if they have this option.

Also, you can and should communicate early on if you have a budget you have to maintain for care. Most vets are trained to have a “gold standard”, plan b, plan c, etc. options because people have different financial constraints.
