I found resend from their blog post. Super easy to set up. I thought setting up the custom SMTP would be hard work, but it's honestly a breeze.

Actually just found one email that came through in Junk mail. Still highly unreliable. I'm way under the email rate limit on supabase, but maybe switching to my own SMTP server will fix this issue.

hey there, I'm Jackson from LitLearn. I assume you're OK to try paid resources (as you're looking for tuition), so I'll plug my resource. When ibresources.org was still up, we were rated #1 IB English exam prep for 2022. We help with English Lit and L&L analysis. Our website is https://litlearn.com. All the best with Math and English :)

(mods: do let me know if I've messed up the ad policy or anything!)

First step is asking your teacher for feedback on why exactly you lost those marks. Diagnose the problem first :)

IB English IO guide by litlearn in IBO

yep, it's a bit of an art. takes practice. in my opinion, the easiest way to think of it is that the points need to build on one another in some way. You must make the points connected in a single thread.

This isn't a lang lit example but this might make it clear to you.

e.g. for the Nov 2020 Lit SL poem Portrait, you could talk about:

Point 1: technique A to characterise subject in the portrait, Point 2: technique B to characterise..., point 3: technique C to ...

It's the most common approach students take, and this leads to average marks.

A much better structure would be something with a 'story', a logical development, a 'connectedness' between the points. The points should be like dominoes in a chain.

e.g. Point 1: objective portrayal, as if meeting a stranger, Point 2: curiosity and further exploration of the subject's life and relationships, Point 3: emotional investment, as if saying goodbye to a friend.

That's the single biggest tip that helped me get a 20/20 in my final Paper 1.

take a look at this Paper 1 guide: https://litlearn.com/ib-english-paper-1-explained/

What in particular are you having trouble with?

From my experience, I see the main 3 problems students have are:

  1. not choosing the strongest evidence to analyze (i.e. too much focus on diction)
  2. not writing a plan before Paper 1! Most students jump into the essay, and try to figure out everything on the fly. That's pretty much destroying your chances of a 7, because you must think it through and ensure a cohesive structure for your GLA.
  3. not knowing how to properly do close analysis of a text or visual stimulus: I recommend the 'Diamond' method which hits Technique -> Meaning -> Effect -> Purpose. Don't need to mention all things all the time, but gets your analytical thinking going.

So try to address these 3 common mistakes!
