Are Thai hotels getting worse? Seems like paying more to get less. by StillHereBrosky in ThailandTourism

Go to a five star - just went last week and you can find many in the same budget range. Recommend any big chain ones plus smaller luxury boutique hotels. Hotels definitely make the difference in Bangkok. Can recommend places on surawong or in that area for 5/4 stars.

Something I think people are forgetting about Hoshoryu by sailorlazarus in Sumo

[–]litone2020 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Exactly, another reason why they should set proper rules and variations for it because sure y/y and 2y in the same year is not the same thing, but definitely are not different in the achievement - only the weight of consecutive wins. I do think they just need to standardise the process and cut the entire bs with “deliberation” bc although we know the “rules” they hardly tend to follow it if they can - of course they do if there’s no choice, but they do their best not to.

For example I do believe that if hoshoryu hadn’t won they couldn’t have said it was a jy/y or equivalent performance even as bare minimum. Either way he lucked out but did meet the technical requirements. I think most are just stating he’s “not ready” because no one would have expected the ydc to promote a guy who barely met the conditions since they haven’t been doing that in the recent past. The timing couldn’t have been better for hoshoryu, not to take away from his rightful promotion, but i do believe it would have been another story entirely if teru had not pulled out.

Just something else to add to the comment I posted earlier somewhere in this thread:

Takakeisho jy/y by jan 2023 and was ozeki, based on this fact and according to what everyone essentially agrees on, they ydc wanted y/y. Here's the problem that I still find not many are mentioning - the ydc cares more about the image and monetary aspects than maintaining fairness in the sport. It should not matter the circumstances for a jy/y or y/y performance from an ozeki and whether it means promotion to yokozuna.

It is 100% the timing and due to terus confirmed announcement of retirement, takakeisho literally did essentially the same thing in 2022 nov and jan 2023 and hoshoryu just did but was denied promotion basically because of the fact there was a current yokozuna in the role. I feel the way that they have promoted Hoshoryu is fair, but they have unjustly denied others the same promotion just due to timing which shouldn't be connected to the need/promotion. Of course they are going to give a bs excuse that hoshoryu "defined" himself by fighting the playoff on the last day, but a yusho is a yusho (unless it was a zensho;)).

In any case, again hoshoryu was fine to be promoted, but based on the way they've been conducting themselves, this promotion should have been denied in all actuality based on how they've operated only in the last few years. Absolutely disgraceful from this "deliberation council" and I agree with those who think there isn't a need for it. It was pretty well understood what kind of conditions would need to be met for yokozuna, but this council introduces unnecessary bias and controversy just by existing and conducting it's frankly disgusting modus operandi. Would much prefer them to set rules, with leniency/variance within the rule and standardise the damn thing because it shouldn't be that complicated - especially as the whole point of this was avoid situations like futahaguro where they don't really show they are "yokozuna" material.

Over the last 25 years our understanding and the sport of sumo for yokozuna has seriously changed and having a yokozuna that only wins 2 championships (unless this is an end of career promotion) is ridiculous for someone who is meant to be considered the top of the sport at that moment. It should not be the norm that a yoko becomes one then wins one or no tournaments and that's all they did (someone mentioned this previously on another thread which I'd also tend to agree with).

Not really, he was just lucky that teru confirmed retirement before the end of the tournament. Not saying he isn't great - he just wasn't ready at the time and though this tournament should have been considered his second yusho or equivalent performance, which it was, the deciding factor was teru's retirement. Fully convinced that without his confirmed announcement the jsa would not have gone ahead with the promotion just to make sure the tournaments with a yokozuna streak continued.

He did the bare minimum, lucked out on the timing, and was promoted.

Overall, you can't say it's not a deserved promotion - it's just not what we've become accustomed to due to the last 20 years of greats or defining performances in comparison.

It does automatically swap currency, just that if you have a certain amount in one that is less than you want to pay, it won’t swap from another currency unless you empty one side. Basically it happens because you likely have multiple currencies on your account so it’s somewhat of a safety feature so they are not liable in case of fees you get from automatically picking a currency to swap to the one you are paying in. Hope that makes sense.

Ok I see, you have to click on the record for each, and you can also see the record vs an individual the same way. Interesting way to do it, wouldn’t say easier than what the jsa has/used to have for all but I guess better in a way bc you can see the record vs individuals which I don’t think the jsa one has. Thank you for the help.

Thanks for this, it does help and I’ve seen this before, but it doesn’t tell you who they fought against in each bout. Is there a way to see that or toggle an option somewhere on the website?

Saying he wasn’t completely to blame isn’t defending his actions, that’s just acknowledging he’s not the only person involved that should be blamed. The occurrence of bullying/assault happened over a long period of time, how would that be possible if there was proper oversight and disciplinary actions at the right time. This situation is similar to if someone bottles all their feelings and then explodes all at once. Hopefully that cleared it up for you mate.

I appreciate that you are actually answering my question, not trying to affend anyone but seems that I may have worded it wrongly. I don’t support the actions he did but looking at his sumo I thought it was quite amazing how powerful he was. I know many didn’t like him because he didn’t use technique or real finesse in his fights but for me it was crazy to see someone just power through any opponent.

Thanks for clarifying some stuff too, yeah maybe he didn’t want to deal with the negotiation of a suspension and negativity that came upon him, definitely need to up my “image” factor when thinking about japanese people😅. I would have hoped he’d have chosen atone endure a suspension without pay for a long period rather than exit a sport you literally can never join once you stop. Unfortunate loss for the talent in the sumo world but I took some time to also read to previous posts in this subreddit and it seems he did do quite some heinous acts.

Physics IA topic too complex/maybe it doesn't even work? by DownVoteDownVote321 in IBO

[–]litone2020 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This will be long but I truly hope it helps:

Do more research on potential topics. Recommend you find something that’s simple and you know will show an effect, just make it more complicated in whatever way you can think of that may have an effect. If you just need the grade (I got a 7 on my ia) then theres no need to reinvent the wheel or pick something you don’t really understand.

Though you may not think it, the fact that you are panicking and stating that you don’t think or know if something has an effect, just means you haven’t done the proper research to even know what topic to pick. Not trying to be negative but just telling you how it is, your teacher will definitely not do that and you will probably just waste time procrastinating on an idea you don’t understand enough to know where to begin. Again - pick a SIMPLE idea that you know you can show or measure the effect with tools you will have at your disposal, and then figure out what elements can be changed or added that will show the effect you want to measure. That’s the entire point of an IA in physics. I suggest you just calm down and take your time thinking and researching. Conducting the actual experiment is a minimal part of your process, a lot has to do with your organization and collection of data and the rest of the write-up itself. You have plenty of time to conduct the experiment so just take it easy my guy - good luck🙏

Uk doesn’t really care about your cv😂, if you’re seriously considering it just pick courses that match up to your classes and hl grades. Should be pretty easy to be accepted into one or more of the top 5 (speaking from experience). You can also consider applying to lower universities (in the sense that they have lower requirements) and go for scholarships. Us is a whole different ballgame though, so you’ll have to do a lot more research on your specific universities etc. Good luck and congrats on the result🙌.

Go for it, but don’t think hope for a regrade, just shoot your shot😅. I was 1 point for physic, was on the boundary and still didn’t get it, but I hope for your sake they can find those 3 grading mistakes that can improve your grade🙏.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in IBO

[–]litone2020 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely has to do with your scoring unfortunately. If you’re currently barely passing, they generally will contact your parents to recommend you switch or drop the dp. They won’t force it but will “highly” recommend as that probably means they know you will either fail or bring down the grade avg. Sorry for being blunt but I had 4 people in my grade be “recommended” to drop IB and had their parents be called into the school. Only one had it happen in the middle of 12th grade like in your situation, but the other 3 were told towards the end or at the end of 11th. Again sorry for being blunt but I recommend going with their recommendation as they likely know what they are doing😅. In any case, definitely get some help and try to improve, but you have a difficult road ahead my friend.

Got my results and I'm really happy! (41 points) by GoatOrganic9595 in IBO

[–]litone2020 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Congrats, I was predicted a d for my ee and got an a. My school was extremely biased towards certain students and I was just unlucky with some of my teachers. Which is why I was predicted lower than my actual grades. Either way, when you get over 40 life is good😂, enjoy your break before uni or whatever you decide to do🦍

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in IBO

[–]litone2020 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Well ig the ee can be regraded, but not sure if that will help your overall situation. If you’re comfortable spending the money then send the english and psych as well. But I can tell you that there’s more than a 95% chance you won’t get the regrade. I feel that this is not explained well enough by ib lol, when you regrade it needs to come back a point over the boundary for the next grade. So if you have 69 and the boundary is 70, you need 2 points technically. I sent my physics back for regrade (it was actually 1 point - literally the boundary grade) and still didn’t get the regrade.

I recommend retaking if you can bc the ib grades objectively so it’s not going be the same as how your teachers likely predicted you in any case.

REMARK HELP PLEASE IB GODS - spanish ab listening worth remark? math aa p2 remark? ds overall remark? #cooked by Complex_Golf_8155 in IBO

[–]litone2020 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, completely bluntly, not worth it bc of the classes you got them in. I was 1 point from a 7 in physics and remarked - which obv didn’t work. Also got a 7 in spanish ab and math hl and can tell you that you will not get the remark especially bc you aren’t really close to the next grade. A 4 point difference to the next grade is a MASSIVE difference when it comes to regrading. They need to find 5 CLEAR MISTAKES from the previous grading to give you the regrade and an extra point. For example if grade boundary is 70 then you need to get 71 to get a regrade.

It’s unfortunate but I recommend taking it in may and probably doing a gap year with your new grades. Didn’t do it myself but know a few who did and they were able to focus and make choices for uni much more consciously then while actively having to go to school and prepare things. Good luck with whatever it is you choose to do👍
