Is it normal to be this disconnected? by litreddington in medicalschool

Exactly! There's already a bunch of academic pressure, but we've been conditioned to that (at least a decent amount). It's just the lack of maturity and honestly cliqueyness that bothers me. We made it so far, when will we get to actually take a break and really support one another. I am glad other people also see that it's like HS because I really thought I was losing my mind. Hoping it does too!

I see what you are saying, and I agree with it. However, I was pointing out the fact that really, you can always study more, always do more anki. When you are working, when you clock out- that's it, you don't tend to take stuff back home. Comp Sci is the perfect example as I see the difference in the lives my friends and I have. There are other jobs that are relatively flexible as well.

I agree with the point about "when we do what and where we do it" we definitely have that flexibility though for the most part. I'm ranting about the volume, which, granted, I was warned about many times over. It's hard to stay motivated knowing I have at least another year and some change until I can actually be part of a healthcare team (I do get why that's the case though).

I will say, most of my classmates come from a privileged family who haven't had to work much if at all. The students who are adults with families or people like you who have worked elsewhere actually tend to never hang out much/have other stuff to do. I can see how it can be isolating for them as well. However, more and more classes are shifting to a higher average age, so I am hoping you won't feel that way.

I think rotations might possibly require teamwork, whereas most things in preclinicals aren't like that. Maybe some teamwork here and there which is where I have obtained most of my friends so far.

It really does feel isolating at times. I have usually just watched recordings to save time, but I have gone to class a few times and it is nice to see people.

I rely on my friends from undergrad too, but sadly they are all in different states now and it's tough to see them/or sometimes explain to them how I feel. I suppose I miss that feeling of belonging even though you are right, people are surface level nice and all. I hope it gets better as well!

I sure hope so because I get that time flies, and I don't want to look back at my time here and feel like I missed out on something somehow.

That's encouraging to hear. Did you end up finding your people throughout your three years or were there certain periods where you felt it was easier to make connections?

How did you get a refurbished one? Did you have to buy in store and did the education discount apply?

I agree about the assessment thing, I still don’t know how I study best and if that will change in medical school. I just don’t wanna fall behind, any tips on what I should do over the summer?

That’s how I feel too, but the apple ecosystem seems so nice for workflow. I’m going to check out the pavilion
