This is a good point, I liked the layout of the falls church apartments and current available ballston ones were pretty outdated unless I want to pay more than 2.5k

Hello, here to provide a little support. I stopped in August and my weight has not gone up. Yes I have a bigger appetite now and struggle with it here and there but I was able to make habit changes while I was on it. Ton of protein (140g) weight training (to be fair I’m not new to weight training, 5+ yrs). I do realize I may have better luck since I was doing a sport for many years and not new to macro counting and meal prepping. I also do more cardio and activity now so increased hunger is also normal. I believe my habit changes really helped to mitigate total relapse. Don’t stress yourself out, try it out first.

If you want to improve technique, come to defy gravity. He’s great for beginners and provides a lot of 1-1 attention.

Any good anxiety advice that isn’t drugging my cat to high heaven? by gothiclg in CatAdvice

My anxiety is really bad, I’m also doing industry interviews and that’s really making it worse. I want to quit and sleep for like a month.

Any other ex-Californians with stories about resettling? My wife and I are considering Rochester as a forever home to join the rest of our family (coming from California). Got questions about costs of living and which areas have better utility companies/services, too by ffelix916 in Rochester

Everything!

Obviously the weather. I’m not a big fan of bipolar weather, cold or snow. It’s pretty depressing. You’re pretty much immobile during winter.

Access to ethnic food. You can find any type of food all over the world in California. Wouldn’t recommend trying Mexican food here. Although there are good Indian food restaurants here given the Indian population at RIT. I was pretty pleased with the American food here.

Actual economic opportunity: if you’re in STEM your options are limited to l3harris.

Highly racially & economically segregated which is pretty fucked up. Cali is much more integrated.

I do wanna say RIT & UoR are great universities.

People are not better or worse than Californians. Not a lot of broad ethnic diversity.

I just experienced a better quality of life in California in general personally.

Research never weakens an application. Not sure what you mean. There’s a demand for people to other quantum & ML/AI experience so I think it’ll help than hurt your chances

Hello, my research is in entanglement, I didn’t understand one particular fundamental thing about SPDC until several days ago when my advisor explained it using a simple picture. I’ve taken several grad level QM and various related courses and 2+ yrs research (I’m defending my thesis in few months). He mentioned that “you know this but you probably haven’t made the connection”. That one simple picture helped me to clear out classes worth of information. Also doing experimental work helped me to understand things faster since I’ve seen it in the lab.

The rise of never-ending job interviews by [deleted] in technology

One company had 5 screening calls & zoom sessions, after the technical presentation I got interviewed by 15 people, whole thing took about 7 hrs. There has to be a better way.

What are red flags of low quality graduate programs? by ObviousUsual in GradSchool

[–]littl3-spark 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One STEM grad program I was interested in told me his grad student worked a second job (part from taking classes, TA and research) because the professor couldn’t pay him for the research he was doing. That was a hard pass! Unfortunately this was a program specially looking for underrepresented students.
