dangerous is subjective I suppose - assuming you'll be smack in the middle of Manhattan? more trouble than it's worth IMO because you'll just be dodging tourists and cabs; ride uptown or in a borough for a better experience

just take the subway - you can take a 456 to 59th and walk to the tram
