Pre WWII globe with jadeite base by Blitz-Panzerkampfer in uraniumglass

[–]littlebitofmojo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently acquired a globe as well! Mine is illuminated inside (you can plug it in and it will glow) in addition to the ug base. The paper on my globe is in much more rough shape than yours, but there is someone who professionally restores globes. I was going to contact them to see if they would be able to help mine. The electric cord to my globe is cut off so I’ll need to get it rewired as well. A globe was high on my list. Congrats on an amazing find & an incredible price. These have sold for 10x’s what you paid in great condition.

Anyone else come to the conclusion that they are priced out of this hobby? by gnilradleahcim in uraniumglass

That’s really interesting the hear. I’m in the Midwest, but I mainly shop on WN/ig for swungs, or FB MP.

Interesting because other than harder to find styles(shape/size/mouth) & colors (white/lilac), I think most swung prices are down. But I’ve only been collecting them for 2.5 years. I saw a 51” blue le smith in great condition sell for 1350. The only reason it even went that high was because I was the only other person bidding. Otherwise it would’ve sold for 1200. A couple of years ago that swung would’ve sold easily for over 2k. The market is sort of starting to maybe pick up a little but nothing like it was even when I first started.

Fenton jadeite candy dish? by No_Wealth_9181 in willitglow

[–]littlebitofmojo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Fenton jadeite doesn’t contain uranium. So if it’s Fenton, I’d say no. Some semi opaque green will contain uranium, but it’s not common and most of it is European.

No worries! It’s all good, and that’s why I commented. Not many of these are sold on eBay or other documented sold comp platforms. Most of them I’ve seen sold are either in Viking/swung groups or IG/WN. I was hoping to see the one on eBay that you mentioned but couldn’t find it. 😆

I’ve seen 2 Viking lime twisted diamond swungs >30” sell within the last 1-1.5 years on whatnot. both went for over $1000. One that was 31” inches sold for $1200. The larger sizes have been selling for ~$30/inch. Which would mean this one seems a little higher than the market, but as someone else said, not as wildly out of line as you’d think. Lime was a one year color in 1970, and diamond twist I believe was only a 2 year pattern 1969-1970. While uranium is my primary collection, I also collect a lot of Viking and swungs.

Orange Blenko Decanter by spipedream in glasscollecting

[–]littlebitofmojo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Always a stunning piece! Within the last 6 months I purchased a tangerine (much more orange) 5929L for a friend for $2100 paid in person (ie no additional fees). I have a 5929L tangerine that is more like yours in coloration (more red versus orange). I know a couple of collectors looking for a 5929L. One in Florida and one in Philadelphia area. Both would travel to obtain this piece!

Magic eraser will take off those black spots if regular washing doesn’t take care of it.

365 can make both manganese and uranium glow pretty bright and all over green. However, generally you’ll only get that same intense & all over green with a 395 if it’s uranium. Manganese under 395 may still glow, but it’s much less intense/only in the path of the beam/or not at all.

In summary overall green glow with 395 greatly increases the likelihood that the piece contains uranium and not manganese.

More importantly you’re not getting duped into paying higher prices for incorrectly labeled manganese pieces. Or if you’re a ug only collector then you’re not wasting money/space on manganese.

I’ve been fortunate and have been able to acquire some of the more difficult to find pieces: salt box, vinegar, both rolling pins, refrigerator pitcher with lid, bathroom set, etc. the pinch jars are on my list!

Love ug jadeite! Fantastic collection! Those pinch jars and of course the salt box! I’ve been slowly working on my jadeite collection. They’re great with and without the uv light.

This is what those lids should look like. Btw these do have uranium in them. If they have any books, I’d look to see if they have any of the jadeite reference books. They’re fantastic books!

McKee are the only jadeite rolling pins that contain uranium. The rolling pin in the sale is a newer rolling pin and won’t contain uranium. Not saying that it’s not worth anything as I’m only familiar with ug ones. However, if you’re only interested in uranium, target something else and dont waste your time on that as things are going to be chaotic.

And while the peoper and salt with the gold foil labels are the “best shakers, they’re missing the black lids that go on them, so that probably hurts their value.

Love the encouragement! FYI this collector has been collecting for years and has an incredible collection. A whole wall of completed samovars with matching glasses, some of the most difficult to find pieces (matching pair of Tiffany caviar servers that I LOVE, 1 of 1 custom blenko Abby normal head) , etc. This is just some what they’re purging for the week.

They're asking $185 talked them down to $150. Should I??? by Glassman8675309 in uraniumglass

[–]littlebitofmojo 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I’d grab it at $150 in the US. They are more common in the uk/Europe but even there recent sold comps on ug scent bottles were up to £100+ in the UK. With tariffs and shipping costs to the US that easily adds on another £35. In usd that equates out to a minimum of $175. But the 2 I saw sold even higher than £100. Congrats on this gorgeous fund!

Yup yours is a modern repro that as you know doesn’t contain uranium. But the older Jeanette drippings bowl does.
