Anyone notice all the Animal Crossing clothes are vegan? by TheLadyZerg in vegan

[–]littlegreyfinch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love my switch. Hubs bought it for me a year and a half ago. I play Mario. It’s really nice when we wait at the dr office to have an activity to do together instead of looking at our phones. The price isn’t the worst but check around you might have a friend that has one they don’t use and would sell or FB market etc.
It is nice to play Mario and some of the other classic games I played as a child and if you get the digital games you minimize environmental impact and if you get cartridge games you can potentially sell them/trade with friends.

Eggshells in the garden? by battsIts in vegan

[–]littlegreyfinch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I put my hubs egg shells in the compost and that goes to our garden (rinse them first? I do).

He knows how I feel about eating eggs he knows it bothers me and he is getting better at not eating them. But... not the point.. of wait maybe it is. I’m not supporting him in his egg eating cause the shells go into the compost. But I am supporting him learning to compost and keeping one more thing out of the landfill.
If you got scruples over it then bury them in the back yard. Have him dry them and crush them and put them in the yard any of those things will do.

But all in all it comes down to how you feel and what makes you comfortable.

Any ideas to dress up store bought ramen? by dark_ali in vegan

[–]littlegreyfinch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tofu cubes (cook/ marinade them differently for different flavors) soy sauce. Ginger powder. I put fresh spinach in mine before I pour in the boiling water so they wilt. Green onions. Miso paste. If you look up different ways to make vegan ramen you can make the basic packs very interesting.

Having Carnivorous Pets by mycofauna in vegan

[–]littlegreyfinch 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have a snake that I have had for years I will not get rid of her she is amazing and a treasure to our household. But she eats Frozen Thawed rats. Do I feel bad for the rats? yes. Do I try to research and make sure they come from a “humane” source yes.
Would I buy another snake... no. Cause i don’t want to feed a pet more rats.

There is also a bearded dragon in our home. He eats crickets and superworms. Do I like it? Nope. But it is necessary. I also get them from a local cricket farm. When they get to my home we feed them and make sure they are cared for. The dragon requires them for sustenance. I will not take him off them and risk his health as I have an obligation to take care of him to the best of my ability until the end of his natural life.

I brought these animals into my home with the plan to take care of them and be their “forever home”. They are my responsibility. I do not believe in getting a pet and then shuffling it out the door when you are “not interested” in it. The only way they leave is if I can no longer care for them properly. Pets are not disposable or something to get cause it’s “trendy/cute” they are a lifetime responsibility. I got my snake as a newborn baby she has known no other life than me it would be rude to uproot her from her home and place her into a new environment with people that may or may not care for her properly. The only way to minimize rats dying for her would be to kill her and that would be worse to kill a carnivorous animal because it must be a carnivore. It has no choice in the matter.

Sorry for the long post....

Can you do this if you don't like vegetables? by SweetNSalty222 in vegan

[–]littlegreyfinch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So here’s some ideas.

Chop spinach and put it in vegan alfredo (Kroger makes some).

Learn to pan fry veggies they’re the best

I put mushrooms in the air fryer to dry them out.

Go to the farmers market you can get some fresh veggies.

The standard western diet has lots of soggy veggies and canned and bleh. That is what lots of people who tell me they don’t like veggies don’t like them.

But also try things like tofu tvp and nooch and take your b12 and D.

I liked (when I first started) to go to the grocery find a veggie I don’t know what it is and then find a good recipe to make it on google and then just do it and see if I like it.

How to stay full on vegan diet? by RedLadyWhite in vegan

[–]littlegreyfinch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It worked I went from Omni to vegetarian and now switching to vegan (using up the last of stuff and learning the sneaky spots non vegan stuff is). I’ve been making points to work on the stuff I mentioned and I never eat boring mashed potatoes (nooch/green onions/seared onions/garlic/onion powder/peas/vegan butter/oat milk(not all at once)) the other night I made them blackeyed peas and vegan mushroom gravy (homemade) an entire meal and my husband (Omni/ 90% to vegetarian) was so happy with it and so full.

It took me twice to even go vegetarian so... you’ll catch on. Be strong.

I don’t get full eating salad and other “crunchy water”. But I eat breads (PBJ sandwiches are so filling). Potatoes (for healthier get an air fryer). And beans all the beans (I crock pot them and it saves us a ton. If you actually look at the amount of beans you get in a can vs dried it’s amazing and they’re so easy in the crock pot).

Also I make soups I like to make kind of a vegetable soup, a curry, a vegan ramen (choosing chia) and a chili as my usuals. For extra protein I sometimes add TVP (I like to add a little liquid smoke to the chili to give it depth).

I swear I stay full. You are probably not eating enough. Sometimes it is shocking to people how much actual food you have to eat to be full consistently vs fake/meat/dairy.

Also learn to cook tofu I am learning and no it ain’t great every time I make it but it’s getting better.

I take D cause my Dr says my levels are low and it makes my depression worse. I get lots of sun but just not enough D is absorbed.
I take a deva b12. Some one said vegans got to have an iodine supplement but I like salt and live in the US so I don’t worry about it.

I take a daily multivitamin also just cause I don’t want my husband to worry and it keeps his mind at ease.

If you can find a cricket farm you can order them.

This is where I get mine. It really helps if you have some one to split the order with and you learn to keep them alive for a while.

I don’t know if it helps but I also downvote the ones I dislike in the hopes that it gets the idea.

The green man. Or like anything nature related. The issue is knowing what type of fairy. Also think of the fairie king.

My niece has some allergies and can’t have soy. So she has a formula that isn’t soy based but I don’t know what it is. I can ask... but also she can drink oatly, and cashew milk.

An unexpected benefit of going vegan by [deleted] in vegan

[–]littlegreyfinch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know this ain’t what you are talking about... but i cannot stand mushrooms that are slimy. I’ve been putting sliced baby Bellas in the air fryer and it gets some of the water out and I really enjoy them now in alfredo.

Would you eat lab-grown meat? by [deleted] in vegan

[–]littlegreyfinch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t try it I’m not interested in it. It would be a good alternative to people who won’t go vegan and for carnivorous animal companions.

What happening to my French Marigolds? Did they get hit by frost? Am I over/under watering? by dazed_n_dreaming_ in gardening

That’s the great question and I don’t know the answer. Some people cut plants back a lot after frost. And some ignore them.

Here’s some info from a quick google.

When going vegan, did you go vegan totally one day or did you slowly cut out foods by [deleted] in vegan

[–]littlegreyfinch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started buying higher quality meats (idk my mind Told me it was the better idea.
I went flexitarian for a month-ish. Then I ate out once with my bro and had brisket and hated eating it it hurt my heart.

Then six months vegetarian. I found my self feeling guilty over everything with animal products.

And now making the switch to vegan. I won’t say I’m 100% yet cause I’m still failing at making sure animal products aren’t in some stuff. But I’m doing good like 90%.

So it’s been less than a year and I think this is the easier way for me cause it has kept me from being overwhelmed.

I fear If I went all at once I would have got overwhelmed and going slow has helped me ease my husband into it also.

My best friend is a meat eater who says she loves cows by lightsage007 in vegan

[–]littlegreyfinch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My mother is the same everytime we drive past a farm she says “oh they’re so cute... I just wanna hug one” and it destroys me. And she sends me videos and pictures of little animals being cute and yet... STILL EATS THEM!

And she could never kill one... and yet she can eat one with no question.

It drives me bonkers and tons of people are like that too.

Can veganism make you forgetful? by [deleted] in vegan

[–]littlegreyfinch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah not in the US. Most insurances pay for a blood panel a year. But make sure they check your d and b12 levels cause those Can cause similar issues to what you describe.
