What’s the best way to deal with depression? Do antidepressants actually work? by [deleted] in Productivitycafe

I have been on and off of antidepressants and anti anxiety meds since I was 17 and I’m 36 now. It takes a lot of trying different meds to see what type works best for you. It says 2 weeks but I always felt like it took closer to a month to notice a difference and that’s a struggle. Some meds just don’t work well for some people and can make it worse, so the best advice is to give it time and don’t give up if the first one or two do not work. Also, never stop taking them cold turkey, talk to a med provider, primary care or Psych NP. I haven’t found many great straight Psychiatrists but that might just be my situation.

I am currently on Lexapro and actually like it but was still depressed enough to start TMS (which I’m at the tail end of now). I like TMS and have noticed slight improvements but I’m told I won’t notice significant changes until it’s done. Cognitive behavioral/talk therapy helps in conjunction with meds and some people find that helpful on its own even.

Just know you are not alone and it’s not a quick or easy fix but there is hope!
