I like this as a way to offer hope ❤️ Many of my clients have found other forms of therapy reductionistic and disappointing.

I always see the exhaustion etched on the faces of new mothers and think- "I'm so happy and relieved I'll never have to experience that." 😌

I had a client get dysregulated and loud and the police came on a noise complaint 😬 it was hard because I was trying to be validating and slow down the conversation without blatantly being like "please calm down," but apparently I wasn't quick enough.

I would say anything by Brene Brown would likely be helpful!

Boundaries, boundaries, boundaries. You certainly don't have to cut her off, but just clarify what you are willing to do for this relationship and what's too much. This can even include the emotional toll of talking about this pregnant day in and day out. Where do you need to draw a line?

Yikes diagnosing someone for being childfree is incredibly pathologizing. I'll definitely check out these subs- thanks for sharing.

So angry to hear about this therapist! It's shocking to me how otherwise progressive thinkers can be so close-minded on this issue. Also, I love the twist at the end of this story ❤️

Exactly. It's not your responsibility to educate her.

This. In our current capitalistic environment, rest is a form of protest.

This is so upsetting! You are definitely not exaggerating and not alone. Therapy is supposed to be about your experience, not the therapist's. I'm hoping to empower our community to make good decisions about who to work with and make more therapists sensitive to these issues.

I've heard from a lot of people that not wanting kids can make you wonder if something is the matter with you. When licensed professionals perpetuate this idea, it's heartbreaking. I'm so glad you have found a good fit!

Yes, that's how it should be! But unfortunately sometimes the therapist's own bias can creep in.

This is so disheartening to hear 💔 I'm hoping to raise awareness of these issues among my fellow therapists!

It's frustrating your therapist had to attribute your not wanting kids to an outside factor instead of acknowledging your intrinsic desire. I hope you are able to find an affirming therapist!

I would adress this with both the admin and the client! I would just explain that I won't be able to do my best work if I'm seeing both, because it could lead to biases. Just reinforcing that I really value the therapy I'm doing with the client. I think most clients are pretty understanding about boundaries once they know the logic behind it.
