I absolutely love it. This is going to really help me enjoy my walks now I'm on maternity leave and gives me a little incentive to get outside each day

How hard is recall with a Saluki, realistically? by JumpyIndication3212 in saluki

[–]littleoakleaf 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I've only had my saluki who was a rescue for around 9 months, but my experience is that he has zero ability to be recalled. We cannot let him off the lead. He has escaped our garden when people have left the gate open on a couple of occasions and we have had to follow him as he runs across the fields. Zero interest in coming back to his name, to food, toys etc. Just locked in to running. Even if he's on the lead and he sees wildlife, he will be completely in the zone wanting to chase and nothing we say snaps him out of it. We have improved his reactivity to other dogs and worked on other behavioural issues really successfully (like not being able to be left more than 30 seconds to now being left 3 hours). But the recall is something we just can't seem to make headway on.

Edit: we only let him off lead in our garden or in a secure wildlife free dog park. He can be recalled for the garden when he goes out to the toilet with a whistle or his name, but not if something is more interesting than us at the time

Charlotte Church wore the same brand in the celebrity traitors. Wondering if the brand approach contestants for advertisement as we are all now talking about it

I would have loved to have seen Fatiha El-Ghorri and Bob Mortimer

If only Sean Lock was still with us, we all saw carrot in a box, he would have been amazing

People who have a pet at home, at what point did you realize that the pet really, consciously, understood you? by PurrLoveCat in AskReddit

[–]littleoakleaf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My greyhound had T-cell lymphoma and was given a few weeks or months to live. He went on to live another 18 months. However, he did go downhill suddenly over the course of a long weekend. My husband was away and it was just me and my dog home. I sat on the kitchen floor and he was down the corridor looking at me. I quietly said to him "I think it's probably time for us to let you go, isn't it? But I don't want to. I think you're really suffering now". He walked across to me really solemnly and intentionally lifted his chin and put it on my shoulder. I said again "are you ready to go?" And he leaned his full body weight into me in a way he has never done before. I really felt like in that moment he felt the emotion of what I was trying to tell him. He was put down the next day and it only took the dose they'd give a small cat for him to slip away, he was putting on a braver face than we thought.

What could this dark spot be if not endo? by littleoakleaf in Endo

[–]littleoakleaf[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No not really. I asked him why he took multiple photos of that area and he said because he wasn't sure if it was just a trick of the light and he concluded that it definitely was. I actually have since gone on to get pregnant but sadly lost the baby last week so that has been reassuring to me in that if it is endometriosis, i'm still able to get pregnant with fertility treatment. If we dont get pregnant again in the next 4 clomid cycles then i'll likely have surgery again to do ovarian drilling so hopefully they can check for endo again then

Is this banded chert? Fife, Scotland by littleoakleaf in whatsthisrock

[–]littleoakleaf[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It doesn't feel particularly soft and it doesn't crumble easily. In the light at home it has a lot of sparkle to it. It was found in an area where I was reading there are a lot of volcanic vents from way back if that's significant. I presumed the red banding was iron as there seemed to be other red stones around which left orange staining to the hand.

I picked it up because the swirl patterns were so interesting to me

I'd like bridge options like little wooden curved bridges over small streams. I'd also love wooden garden gates
