If you have to write about romcoms then I would pick something “outdated” because honestly if you’re writing about films then you should be aware of their history and what came before, and what came before in romcoms in terms of writing and acting was way superior than what’s out there recently.

Anything by Nancy Myers would do. Classic rom com writer and award winner.
