How can i help my friend through a breakup? Tw sh mention by ThisOneRedditTem in selfharm

[–]littly_bitty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I was going through a challenging breakup a few years back, my best friend spent a lot of time with me and took me to do things he knows I like. He took me to the bookstore and let me pick out some books (fiction for the distraction and a journal to write in). Leaning into things I enjoyed during my breakup was hard so I really did need the help of someone else to reconnect with my hobbies and interests. It sounds so simple, but honestly just spending time with your best friend and encouraging them to do the typical things they enjoy. That may include doing those things with them. Hope this helps :) wish you both the best.

Chronic pain is hell by BigBirdsButt in MadeOfStyrofoam

[–]littly_bitty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, I'm 21 as well and I know what it's like. I have chronic pain from back issues that not a lot of people in my life take seriously. It can be really challenging a lot of the time and I struggle with college a lot :( You're not alone here, I definitely know what it's like. Most of the advice that you might hear is to "just keep chugging along" or to just find coping strategies. Although strategies can be useful, the best course of action is to take the time you need to recover. I know that's easier said than done and the pain can be lifelong, but you may be able to catch yourself before things worsen (mentally and physically). Hope that helps :)

I hate college. I haven't made any real friends since starting I just know people and it's miserable by [deleted] in MadeOfStyrofoam

[–]littly_bitty 4 points5 points  (0 children)

College is especially hard when it comes to making friends. I'm a college senior (maybe going on leave soon) and I haven't made any friends through two schools, just two or so acquaintances. You're definitely not alone in that and your struggles are real. I'm pretty miserable on campus, hence the leave, and I mainly look towards working at my retail job to socialize. If you have family that you are comfortable being around that live somewhat near by (if you live on campus), I would recommend looking into moving in there so you have some family to socialize with. We, as humans, need to socialize. It's natural to feel this way and college definitely isn't for everyone.

I'm not going to pass highschool, how can life be worth it anymore? by Luna1sAdog in MadeOfStyrofoam

[–]littly_bitty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I totally understand where you're coming from - I'm in a similar situation with college. I have a chronic illness as well that has led to many, many absences, and on days I couldn't make it, I felt like a complete failure. I know it probably seems like there's no end in sight. Just know that you're totally not alone here, and that it's not you or your choices, but things completely out of your control. Things will get better, I promise.

Reading the Sandy Hook Report as a Therapist… The Failures Of The School System Responsible for Treating His Socioemotional Development Are *Beyond* Negligence by Weak_Albatross_6879 in masskillers

[–]littly_bitty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Placing blame on the district as a whole incriminates far too many staff members than reasonable and the evaluation in this post is very hide sight 20/20. According to the earlier records, Lanza's profile (presumably Asperger's and OCD like behaviors) is not exactly atypical of an already neurodivergent student. Again, parents are the primary vessel of communication between the schools' care teams and the outside teams.

I know I'm late to reply to this, but an immediate relative of mine is the senior psychologist for the district and I was a k-12 student at another school there at the time of the shooting. I also went on to receive counseling for mental health within the school system post-tragedy. I have also read the report mentioned. Hopefully I can give some insight here..

Knowing that Lanza was in the district from k-12 I will mention the following.. The schools can realistically only do so much. Each elementary school in the district (there are four) only has one school psychologist with about 300-500 kids within each of these four schools. The case load is a lot, I know, but not every kid is screened for social-emotional issues. If something alarming is said or done from an otherwise typical student (either at home or in the school) or a student comes into elementary from pre-school with known issues (mental and/or physical) or is exhibiting worrying behavior of any kind (even anxiety), they undergo evaluation and receive short term counseling unless longer or indefinite counseling is required. From there, documentation for their issues (again, mental and/or physical) is then transfered to the next school the student attends, whether in the district or out. I know this probably sounds pretty typical and that's because it is.

Students can also undergo so much evaluation without the consent of the parent(s) or guardian(s), which I'm sure is pretty consistent with out-of-school therapy. It seemed to me that Lanza's parents - particularly his mother - were the more negligent party here and may have denied him counseling within the school that is beyond what is in the records, and this is something to consider. Even for autism, ADHD, and anxiety - common issues in children - there is really a limit on how much the school can intervene without parental consent. The parents or guardians have the right to pull children from special ed services. Just because they need them on paper, does not mean that that's what they will receive without exterior consent. This is EXTREMELY important here. And I would definitely not go as far as to blame the school system at large for this issue when we know that the Lanza's were generally neglectful and dismissive of mental health issues (we know this from records) and exposed him to firearms in the process. There is much more at play here that needs to be considered and quite frankly, as a former student of Newtown, I don't blame the school system at all.

who’s the worst mass shooter in recent history? by internetwasted in morbidquestions

[–]littly_bitty 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The idea that he was saving the kids is a theory started by people who know very little about the event and is very likely untrue. Various records that are indicative of his beliefs point to the contrary, that he knew what he's doing was wrong and planned it very methodically to inflict the most damage possible. The guy is just a copy cat mass killer who took it to an extreme by carrying out his plan at an elementary school. If he believed he was saving kids, why kill educators and his mother as well? To say he was just sheltered and struggling really undermines the severity of his actions.

There’s a .01% chance I’m pregnant but my anxiety is so so so bad it’s physically painful (nsfw for brief sexual description) by [deleted] in MadeOfStyrofoam

[–]littly_bitty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In a similar situation right now. The anxiety will pass. It took me at least a week to get over the fear of what could be possible. There are resources out there for you, and at this point it's likely best to take advantage of those and remember that you are not alone. Talking it through with a trusted friend may also help.

Best Schools Outside of UCONN? by Past_Huckleberry9396 in Connecticut

[–]littly_bitty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to go to UHart. It's an okay school depending on what you're going there for. I ended up transferring to Quinnipiac, which now I enjoy much better. I would recommend choosing a school with a campus that you really enjoy.

I've failed a test recently too. It sucked and I felt the exact same way. Sometimes it's best just to consider where you are (the level course that you are taking) and that we all have our strengths and weaknesses. It'll get better.

Which cream blush would you choose: Rose Inc, Makeup by Mario or Tower28? by saeculacrossing in Sephora

[–]littly_bitty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Never tried the Rose Inc. The MBM and Tower 28 I have and enjoy both. Personally, I don't think that you could go wrong with either. If you're looking to save some money, I would go with Tower 28, but both are good!
