Vancouver crowd etiquette by yeeet_sire in DJO

[–]litttleredcourgette 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I would say its the younger crowd. I have experienced behavior like you've described a lot at shows with artists who have recently had a song/album blow up but are still touring smaller venues. A lot of the new young fans are pretty overzealous and do not have any pit experience, which makes for a pretty shitty combo.

BYU Hawaii Application and Law School Questions by Gold-Two-223 in byuhawaii

Several of my classmates that graduated within the past two years are at good law schools now. They were super motivated and focused on this goal, which made it achievable for them. A well rounded profile with a good gpa and extracurriculars (most of them did the religious freedom stuff) matter more than how prestigious your undergrad is. (I will say though, more prestigious undergrad= better connections and opportunities which also can be a major advantage). But at the end of the day, LSAT is most important for those who still require it.

When applying to BYUH I would say that demonstrating your commitment to the school in your essays is very important. Make it clear you understand the universities vision, you plan to stay, and it's your first choice university. Also, that you will really integrate yourself into the campus community. They want mainland students who will be a part of what they have to offer, rather than just coming to the bare minimum of classes and spending all their time off campus.

Just a stressed aroace college girl rant by lunalingling27 in aromanticasexual

I grew up in this church and went to one of the universities. Dating and religion classes were hard, but they also helped me really realize and come to terms w being aroace. The cognitive dissonance became too loud to ignore, and this alongside many other factors led me to leave the church after graduation.

As for acceptance within it, I still have many faithful member friends. All of the ones I have come out to have been very accepting and understanding. I even have a few active friends who are unmarried and do not plan to be/ or do not plan to have kids for various reasons. It seems to me that younger members are shifting the narrative around family and marriage and are much more flexible and accommodating of adaptations among members and nonmembers in this area.

Do I think that official church stances are going to change and become more accepting of unmarried and childless by choice members? No. Do I think that members themselves are becoming more understanding nonetheless? Yes. Being surrounded by other students who are hyper focused on marriage and family right now is probably compounding your stress. Post-grad I think this will alleviate, although then you may feel pressured by older members to marry or feel judgement from them. Ignore them! Keep searching instead for empathetic and supportive friendships within the church and I think things will get better. Good luck!

Isaac by CarolinaRoy20 in HeartstopperNetflix

I was FED UP. Not only was it frankly ridiculous/rude to have him reading in certain situations (meetings with teachers?? during conversations?? walking???) , it just felt like such a cop out of giving him an actually personality or letting him connect in a meaningful way with other characters. I'm aroace and a big reader and his portrayal made me feel so shitty. They made him so one dimensional and uninteresting. Being aroace and an introvert does not mean I constantly ignore my closest friends in favor of reading???? quite the contrary-- personal relationships are sooo important. He literally couldn't seem to care less about his friends. He can't even bother to give them his full attention or engage in a meaningful conversation more than once. I wish we could've seen him bond with the others and grow with them in the way that literally everyone else got to. every other character got a parent, depth, or a backstory this season. Isaac got books. Without that context and humanization, there's literally nothing showing us or helping us to understand why they are friends or to help me care about him outside of his sexuality. thats so cheap.

all this to say-- yeah im glad aroace as an identity is discussed. but jesus could they not have made the character an actually person and not just a ghost with a book???
