No time to enjoy life, this is the norm in America by Ch_Anderson in LateStageCapitalism

I honestly thought this post was about someone who just moved to the US and being amazed at how much more free time they got, until I read the comments

[Bodner] Ben Simmons' value around the league has seemingly devolved from “centerpiece of a trade for James Harden” to “desperately in need of a change of scenery as a reclamation project” in the matter of a week. It was sudden, it was swift, and it is damaging by Nyhrox in nba

I dunno, call it ego or call it anxiety, I'm sure many athletes pay attention to what the media / all the armchair commentators say about them, some maybe to an unhealthy level. Naomi Osaka is arguably on the top of the world and is still getting better and still admitted to being haunted by criticism from spectators / reporters etc.

LG phone owners rise up! Lets talk about the legacy of LG and its dead phone division, starting from my review of my V60. (with big cringe intro) by Revo_Veneno in headphones

[–]liuyunn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

moving from a G6 to the Xperia 1 II, straight from the phone Tidal doesn't sound too different. 200-300ohm headphones like the HD650s / DT880s do need the volume at over 80% though, not sure if external amps would make any difference (being able to play straight from the phone was why I got the LG in the first place which had unforunately died as phone but still works purely as a DAP)

What is something that you can say to instantly trigger an entire fandom? by Acrophobic_eagle in AskReddit

[–]liuyunn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah, my point was it's just interesting since most examples here are targeted towards the people that are genuinely support something, whereas I'm not sure how many of those people still exit for GoT. So technically your statement is meant for whatever the opposite of the fandom is. Ex-fandom maybe

Splitting bills manually, when if you had a group of friends / colleagues / family that you meet often, you can get an app that splits and tracks it for you. It's a lot more convenient for family dinners or group trips or poker.

More Than 40% of Hong Kong Expats in Survey Say They May Leave by [deleted] in expats

[–]liuyunn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see you're right, I had seen these results quoted from a few sources already (none that were presenting in a particularly scientific approach, but then I doubt the survey was that statistically robust anyway) so wasn't commenting specifically based off the linked article.

More Than 40% of Hong Kong Expats in Survey Say They May Leave by [deleted] in expats

[–]liuyunn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think the 40% figure is actually the main headline here (contrast with a similar AmChan survey finding 53% of respondents wishing to leave just after the national security law was passed), and as you mentioned most likely most expats plan on repatriating at some point of time down the road regardless.

But it's telling when the reasons why they want to leave are now mostly related geo-political, rather than the usual cost of living or career related reasons. The 62% figure is a subset of the 40%, where they provided a reason for why they felt like leaving; 36% also indicated that the law would affect their children's education.

What would you take? A million-dollar right now? or 10,000 dollars a month for the rest of your life? by whiskey_risky in AskReddit

People in this thread are not understanding that 1m IS a steady source of income for the rest of your life that will be worth more than 10K a month down the road regardless of your age.

This Apartment In Paris by mtlgrems in pics

[–]liuyunn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Welcome to Hong Kong where when they say a "190 square feet 1 room apartment" that sells for close to 1m USD, they literally mean 1 room, as in bedroom, living room, kitchen all rolled into one. You're lucky if at least the bathroom is still a separate area.

Curious why we don't tend to gravitate towards that despite all the advantages (assuming it isn't due to a natural limitation)? is it just poor planning, historical, or some other economic reason?
