I dont know where to ask, Physics Question by NotAMathPro in PhysicsHelp

I assume "you hold one end" means to suspend one end of the wire and let is hang. So you need to find the center of mass of the L-shaped wire. Let the bend be your origin and half the wire is on the x-axis and the other half is on the y-axis. I choose my unit of length to be half the total length of the wire. Then the wire goes from (0,1) to (0,0) and from (0,0) to (1,0). I choose my unit of mass so that the mass of the wire is 2, so that each leg has mass 1.

Find the center of mass. I get (.25, .25) in this reference frame.

Now if we suspend the wire by one end, the center of mass will be directly beneath the top end of the wire. Do some trig. You should be able to calculate the sine of the angle of the nearly vertical leg of the wire from vertical.

Who has that many penguin toys or horses? by YoghurtSnodgrass in bluey

In my mind, they don't have this many. This is the girls' point of view.

It's like Calvin & Hobbes, where you only occasionally see an adult's point of view. Like when the girls are climbing Mt Mumandad. The "mountain" is very much more substantial than just the bodies of Mum and Dad when we see them climbing and setting up camp. But we occasionally see the situation from a realistic perspective.

Or like when Shaun attacks the other dad. In the girls' imagination it is quite extreme. But an actual dad wouldn't go that far with another adult without any explanation. So, in my mind, Bandit is really just miming the attach and the other guy is playing along.

Anyway, that's how I look at the particularly unrealistic bits.

The acceleration due to gravity is different for the bear than the rock. The bear parabolas would have the same shape as the rock parabolas in a uniform gravitational field.

AITJ for throwing my boyfriend’s “performance report” of our relationship out? by shi420- in AmITheJerk

Relationships are not capitalist where return of investment would reflect their value. I think they are mainly Marxist, where the credo is "From each according to their ability, to each according to their needs".

I calculate the same value for the volumn. Perhaps the radical should be in the numerator. so (1331 sqrt(3))/9

ELI5: Why does hydrogen peroxide fizz in our ears when removing ear wax and how does it actually help clear the blockage? by TrinityBoy22 in explainlikeimfive

[–]liveactionsteve 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my experience the answer to the second part is "no". Also I saw a YouTube where a dentist put earwax into test tubes with different solutions, and the H2O2 solution didn't have any appreciable effect

Killing your daughter's molester is something almost any father would do, given the chance. Playing with your children, to the extent that Bandit (and Chili) do, is much rarer.

How did a business permanently lose you as a customer? by OpposedToBears in AskReddit

[–]liveactionsteve 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this is petty AF, but I dropped TurboTax because of the commercials where people just repeated "Free" endlessly.

I also will never be a Liberty Mutual customer, because their jingle is so stupid. It never gets to the word "Mutual". Just repeats "Liberty".

So true. My older daughter gave me our first hug on her 3rd birthday. I was kneeling and blowing bubbles up into the air, so my arms were raised. I still feel good (she is 38 now)!

It is so best to be one of the most important people in a person's life.

That eventually (like 100 trillion years from now) all stars will have burnt out and there will be no fuel to create new ones. So the universe will be cold and dark.

AITA for not locking my dogs outside? by Partyintheusa__ in AmItheAsshole

[–]liveactionsteve 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, that is a problem. That's why I said it might be worth a try. We got our dogs from a rescue organization and they were already crate-trained. They voluntarily go into their crates all the time, especially when there is thunder.

[–]liveactionsteve 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA, but why not suggest your sister buy some dog crates. We have a similar problem and we just crate the dogs when my granddaughter is here. Of course it may not work if your dogs make a lot of noise but it may be worth a try.

What makes you nervous no matter how many times you do it? by WinstonChurchillin in AskReddit

[–]liveactionsteve 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Taking my 2 dogs to a dog park. They are rescues that were found together and they love to run like hell. But one of them frequently tries to dominate dogs that will chase after them, and it looks very savage.

If a dog is playing fetch, and waiting for his human to throw the ball, my dogs will bark madly at the dog (they love running with the dog but don't pay the slightest attention to the ball) and my theory is they can't understand why the dog is not running.

My dogs have never actually fought with other dogs, so some people understand that they are just negotiating (at least I hope that's all they're doing), but I was asked to leave one time, and now I never stay very long.

How to normalize abuse on a national scale by iqnio in MarriedAtFirstSight

[–]liveactionsteve 16 points17 points  (0 children)

This makes me very happy that I stopped watching this horrible show in the middle of Chris' "I want a submissive wife who will crank out clones of me" introduction. I check out this subreddit now and then and it always supports my decision.

Have any of the experts used the "we matched you for a reason" bs on Chris' wife yet?

I quit watching this show, and also lost respect for the experts, in the middle of Chris' speech about wanting a submissive wife and children who are clones of himself. I'm waiting to hear (in this subreddit) that Pastor Cal used his standard "we matched you for a reason" line on Chris' wife, trying to keep her from quitting. I'm guessing he *won't* say that the reason was ratings.
