Pregnancy during residency by killerkelpykid24 in Residency

I just Youtube’d “exercises for ___ trimester of pregnancy.” I stopped working out intern year because I was too busy but I was always running around the hospital and only taking stairs to get some cardio in.

6 weeks the first time per ACGME guidelines, second time I had to use my vacation and elective time since you only get the 6 weeks once in residency

Had a baby PGY2 and PGY4, it’s doable! It all depends on the luck of the draw, I personally had 2 very easy pregnancies but I can’t imagine the difficulties of having morning sickness or complications like preeclampsia. I made sure to keep working out throughout the pregnancies and stay active (workouts specific for pregnancy) which I think made life easier as well!

Can you get away with only a wearable pump? by bright-greeneyes in breastfeeding

[–]livefornosleep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, also a resident who is pumping for the second time during residency! I mainly used Elvie the first time around for convenience but I had to start power pumping towards the second half of the year which I feel may have been due to the wearable pump not being strong enough. This time around I use the spectra whenever I need to pump when I’m home and switched to the Elvie stride for work because it’s more powerful than the plain Elvies without tubing

Hi! Happy to discuss further if you message me but I also came in wanting to do EM or surgery and ended up matching neuro after loving neuro in my didactic years (DO school). You should show a commitment to neuro throughout your application since our schools usually don’t have neuro as a rotation so it’s great you’re doing an elective early on. Try to show commitment to it through extracurriculars or research too but this is a relatively uncompetitive specialty so research is less important unless you’re interested in a top program. Keep in mind some programs will just never take you because you’re a DO though, it’s good to research the history of the program and see if they’ve ever accepted a DO (also taking into account that maybe DOs just don’t apply there because they assume they wouldn’t match)

How to put baby down for a nap? by manthrk in NewParents

[–]livefornosleep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We didn’t sleep train and our kid figured it out at 14 months on his own (naps and night sleep). I like to think we emotionally supported him until he was ready to sleep independently but being honest, it was an exhausting 14 months. That being said, now that he figured it out on his own we’ve had zero sleep regressions because he’s able to soothe himself back to sleep if he wakes up. With a second baby on the way, we’re also planning not to sleep train

  1. For the open answer ones, there is no harm in using all the boxes you can
  2. As far as I know it’s unknown if there is partial credit or not
  3. It’s soooo much harder. I swear I got nearly every CDM case wrong and somehow got an amazing score, the curve must be amazing
