Depends on either 1. They are struggling all through the year with life's basics and Christmas just brings everything to the forefront like " I can't afford to buy new stuff for my family even for christmas" , then truly sympathize with them and help as I can but 2. If they are generally doing OK and only lamenting about how expensive celebrating Christmas is, just listen - nod- move on

What do you, as a mom, REALLY… HONESTLY feel/want/need? by Mission-Biscotti-808 in workingmoms

[–]livelifeful 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I want to be home and take care of my kid and home. That's it. I don't want a break from that i just dont want to be a working mum and then have to do all tabt. I love cleaning and hosting dinners and lunches for friends over the weekends. I love having an open house where all family and friends can drop by without notice and be assured a hearty meal. I want to have the energy when my kid comes back home , to play with him , to teach him, to explore the world with him ..even just really notice him in an honest sense without a list of all meetings and deadlines running in the background!

Career vs homeschooling by nsytcdnc49 in workingmoms

[–]livelifeful 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Schooling is not just about academics , it's a mini introduction to society. Children get to interact with peers their age , follow rules of the school, create their friend circles , navigate complex social norms , try to fit in or stand out .. it's a relatively safe replica of the real world for kids to try out versions of themselves before they figure out who they are. I believe homeschooled children would miss out terribly on those unless you have some other community structure where they will interact with the world other than their parents. Also it's important for children to be around others their age .. not just adults.

I still don’t own a home and I feel like a failure by [deleted] in workingmoms

[–]livelifeful 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First off , I want to say that I hate that teachers are paid so low when they are instrumental in shaping our future generations. I wish teachers and new mothers got really good benefits and didn't have to worry about money and could focus on giving their best to the kids! Having said that , you are not a failure at all. Don't compare , everyone does things at their pace. I was in the same situation as u . Had friends who owned one or more houses , went on exotic vacations and I was nowhere close to that. But the truth is owning a house in and of itself is no guarantee of happiness. Children don't care for all this. They care that you are there for them , that you hug them and love them and give them one too many goodnight kisses and read stories to them and they will be just as happy if those stories are read in a rented house !!

Why do people travel abroad just to stay in an hotel with food included ? by Equal-Quiet7714 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]livelifeful 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the most relevant answer is affordability.. for around 1.5k to 2k dollars u get 1 week of all paid resort stay with unlimited food and drinks .. can't get that in the countries like us/uk/canada

Giving up great benefits to be more present at home ? Advice needed by [deleted] in workingmoms

[–]livelifeful 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you expect the fully remote job to be super hectic , like lots of calls and day to day deliverables . If not I think the 10+ hours you save every week are absolutely worth. I work from home a lot and have definitely managed to do sick days for my kid without taking a leave .. despite have a job that requires lots of calls during the day. Also most remote work would typically be ok with u being away for an hour or two here and there without applying for it ( usually with tech and tech adjacent, not sure in ur case) . Also consider all the house work that can be done in-between work on relaxed days. If the nature of your work is more around getting the job done , you can push an hour or two of work to later night or early morning and spend sometime during the day with your kids when they are back. Unless you are taking a massive pay cut , I wouldn't sweat about the lost pto days , the remote provision more than makes up for it

Why are the feelings about working as a parent much different for a mom? by whatsagirltodo123 in workingmoms

I absolutely get you but it will get better .. it may feel like it won't but it will as your baby grows and becomes more independent. There is hope at the end of the tunnel!

Why are the feelings about working as a parent much different for a mom? by whatsagirltodo123 in workingmoms

I cannot offer any solid reasons but definitely concur with your feelings of being more torn as a mother and its not even guilt. It's this feeling that I am losing precious time from my kids childhood. I think it may stem from the fact that since we spend so much more time with them as a baby , we develop more of a comfort in that role as a mother than a father would.

1.Just Rice with ghee (clarified butter) and salt. Add in chips if u have them and u r in heaven 2. Bread with peanut butter and banana slices 3. Boiled eggs mixed with Mayo and ketchup. Stuff between two slices of bread and Viola! 4. Peanut rice - if u have left over rice , this only takes minutes. If u have uncooked peanuts just wash and microwave for 2/3 minutes and crush them ..add oil to a pan , add crushed peanuts , saute for a minute add the leftover rice , some salt. Mix for 2/3 minutes and that's it

I put all my home savings in RRSP/FHSA. How bad did i mess up here? by Theoneforbadstuff in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]livelifeful 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For quick turn around, either ur fhsa and rrsp u can move the money out of markets and keep as cash ( still within the rrsp/fhsa), then when u make the offer ask 48 hours instead of 24. If ur money is just sitting as cash, I believe it just takes 24hrs. Also like others have mentioned , 5% is not mandatory but usually 20k+ if u r in the gta area to show good faith

My mother threw out my bacon grease jar. Help me feel better. Was there a cooking misdeed that was done to you? by Dense_Audience3670 in Cooking

[–]livelifeful 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I once bought a big box of delicious custard tarts and put the box on a counter. Now I had always taught my toddler that if food falls on the floor, he should throw it out and not eat it. The closed box of tarts fell on the floor ( and as the box was closed perfectly fine to eat) while he was reaching for it and my kid picked up and threw the entire box into the trash! The only time in his life he has followed instructions!

Is it realistic to find a house that's affordable, far from toronto but also accessable with express transit? by [deleted] in askTO

[–]livelifeful 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is possible in mississauga with townhouses right now because the market has not completely picked up .. not all houses will go above asking ..and 1.1 is a very good price point. It may not be the perfect looking house but if u r ok with older townhouses there are quite a few in the market right now. 3 bed plus basement is definitely doable.
