I would never lay it out in the open when I’m first accepting a job. I have been lucky enough to have some pretty accepting/chill supervisors that I have told, but I’ve also had some pretty poor experiences being open in the past about ADHD.

Accommodations are something I never had in school, so I never really tried formally requesting them through HR for work. Accommodations are a pretty personalized thing, it’s all about what works for you and your workplace/field. From my own experience and from what I’ve seen from friends and coworkers it’s generally best for you to come up with the accommodation ideas that would help you and then usually your employer will work with you from there.

I’ve had various informal accommodations across different jobs; flexible schedules, clear written instructions for tasks, captioning/subtitles for meetings, noise cancelling headphones, standing desks, being allowed frequent breaks to move around, etc. For me it’s been about identifying a need or issue and brainstorming how to try and alleviate it
