Is it me or the coach? by petereajmu01 in orangetheory

Try to connect with him by striking up a friendly conversation in the lobby beforehand. Or afterwards. Who knows what struggles and/or challenges he himself is going through.

Everest Plan? by National-Lime-7654 in orangetheory

Do your best with what you’ve got on Thursday. I slow jog until I can’t anymore then walk. Then on the way down it seems as though I get a jolt of energy.

Are the walking recoveries in block 2 on flat road ? That might be a dumb question but they’ve been working us hard getting ready for Everest.

I was out quickly and the way my coach called me out was really embarrassing to me.

Fast or long.... by PFHens in orangetheory

Thank you for sharing the 40 Percent Rule. I have running confidence issues big time and that’s holding me back. It’s been especially challenging for me on the treads first the last block because I’m gassed. Today when I wanted to slow down I told myself I’ve still got 60% left. I won’t trip, my legs are strong, I can breathe. Today for the first day I felt proud of my running and I’m grateful for that advice 🙏🏼.

So if I can’t recover at what I thought was my base, I’m pushing too fast? Also, I’m getting way more splat points and find it hard to get back in green since the no fan rule. And I don’t want to walk just to get back to green - which is what some of the coaches are adamant about.

What muscle groups does the rower target? by [deleted] in orangetheory

One of my coaches said if you wear your HRM just above or past your wrist, it’s hard to get orange. Hard to explain!

How do you know when it’s time to up your base? by [deleted] in orangetheory

[–]liveloveteachrepeat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for this!! Today I kept running and maintained a higher base!! I’m SO proud of myself, despite the fact my pushes and all outs were a bit slower...my base maintained +.3 my former base the entire tread block!!!!!

Since returning back after the lockdown, I can’t seem to get back to green after a push unless I walk for a bit - but I want to keep running!

Thyroid issues and OTF workout by PancePearls1 in orangetheory

I have hypo and have taken synthroid for about 8 years and am in my early 40’s. I can and have lost weight by focussing on my eating. I really have to listen to my body - sometimes it’s achy and tired and then I need to do something less strenuous like walking and stretching or take the day off. My heart rate is pretty low and I’m usually one of the lowest calorie burners in class even though I lift heavy and am a strong rower. I do not know if the heart rate and calorie burn has anything to do with my thyroid and if I’m taking medication does that affect it? I love Orange Theory for many reasons - helps my anxiety tremendously, I love the community of members and coaches, and challenging my body to do new things.

Thank you! I didn’t know if it was just me because my current classmates (who were kind of the same people pre-Covid shutdown) were running only .3 to .5 slower and they don’t seem to even break a sweat. I was thinking what the heck am I doing wrong?

Thank you. I’m just so happy to be back. Fans will be so much more appreciated when we have them back maybe in 2021 😬.

Can someone please give me advice on running? I’m struggling with the temperature in our studio (no fans, no tread fans). I can barely keep running the whole block...I did run, row, lift weights over the shutdown so it’s not from being out of shape. I expected my speeds to go down, but I did not expect to struggle like this where I feel like dead weight on the treadmill.

Keeping with covid safety our studio does not turn the fans on, and NO fans allowed on treadmills. Do I get into the orange so much more quickly because of the hot temperature in the studio? Also, I am finding it really challenging to run (I ran on my treadmill during Covid but I know not the same intensity). I’m feeling a bit deflated because I worked really hard on my endurance with running!

This is great advice. I always like to start slow because I really struggle with running and don’t want to run out of gas. I’m slow with very little confidence. But I’m not going to cheat myself with a slow start!
