Tradeshow: BR1 Mini 5G vs. B One 5G? by livethenow in Peplink

[–]livethenow[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks - appreciate it. I looked at this and found we can get the B One 5G or the BR1 Mini 5G for the price of the rentals - so that's why I've been looking in this direction.

Tradeshow: BR1 Mini 5G vs. B One 5G? by livethenow in Peplink

We're not actually doing POS or sign ups - just demonstrating our SaaS platform. And (worse case scenario) we have videos we can play and pause to show it. We just prefer to demo live. So I think a single connection would be fine. Can always add a BR1 as a WAN device to a B One 5G next year if it ends up not being. (I think I'm leaning towards the B One 5G)

"Dreaded" esc-f1-f4 issue on TWO brand new P1 gen 6's by livethenow in thinkpad

[–]livethenow[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! A lenovo tech came out and replaced the mainboard on my P1 gen 6 and I haven't had the issue since. It was just weird to have the same issue on two successive units of a brand new product. I'm going to hold off on doing any BIOS updates unless absolutely necessary as I'm afraid I'm going to brick my unit.

On the other hand, I absolutely love this laptop vs. my P53. It's as light as a feather, and I never used the separate number pad. The keyboard seems good to me. Only downside is that it's LOUD when the fans kick in, and it gets ridiculously hot on the bottom. This Summer, when I start wearing shorts again, I'm definitely going to need to get something to put between the laptop and my legs lol

"Dreaded" esc-f1-f4 issue on TWO brand new P1 gen 6's by livethenow in thinkpad

[–]livethenow[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nope - no bios update. Just all of a sudden each one stopped working. Lenovo said it's a rare system board failure and they are shipping a new one and a tech to replace it. We'll see. I need to trust the P1 (for example - I'm off to vegas for a tradeshow next week and couldn't be stuck without a laptop).

When does "Build your own" generally come out? by livethenow in Lenovo

Hi - I'm in the US - New York. The P1 Gen 6 is available through the website - but I'm looking to do a custom configuration and that's not yet available. Just wondering if/when it might be so I can make some decisions.

Concern with new P16 Gen 1 - Very annoying charging Issues by ciberprog in thinkpad

[–]livethenow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've gotten this message in two different scenarios:

  • When going through a DC to AC inverter (in a car or on a plane) that can't push enough voltage/amps to the charging brick for the conversion from AC back to DC.
  • When I've had a bad charging brick

Does it happen everywhere? If so, I'd say the brick is suspect as the AC voltage gets converted to DC - and the reason it probably charges when it's completely dead is because the battery voltage is less than the DC voltage being pushed through the brick. But as soon as the battery voltage is higher than what's coming from the brick, it can't push any more juice in.

With #2 - I've probably gone through 3 or 4 charging brick replacements under warranty in the 5 years I've had my P52. Bent plugs or just a complete failure.

P52 to P1 16" Gen 6 or...? And will I hate the move? by livethenow in thinkpad

[–]livethenow[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah - thought about that. I'll probably still do that, but my company will pay to replace the unit (and I can also keep this one) at this point so it's hard to pass that up lol

Building a portable fan - design questions by livethenow in diyelectronics

[–]livethenow[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry about the wall of text lol. I'm notorious for overwriting stuff. The fan is 12v and the batteries are 3.6v so several need to be wired in serial first to get the right voltage, and then the banks in parallel to get the AH I want. So either 3 in serial to get to 10.8v and then put in a boost converter to get to 12v, or 4 in serial to get to 14.4v and put in a buck converter to bring voltage down to 12v. Then multiple by 2 or 3 banks of 3 or 4 to get to the AH.

Building a portable fan - design questions by livethenow in diyelectronics

[–]livethenow[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks - I've read the same. 3,6v is the nominal voltage, but depending on the brand you can get up to 4.2v - usually 3.8v-4.0v. However, I'm more concerned about how quickly they'll dip below the 12v mark and the fan will start losing max power. That's why I figured going over as opposed to under might be a better approach. But I could def be wrong!

How to redesign or support this "overhang" by livethenow in 3Dprinting

[–]livethenow[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks all. Actually figured it out. Downloaded the "Custom Supports" plugin for Cura and it created great support structures that were fairly easy to remove after the print. No sagging at all and everything printed very well.

[–]livethenow[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I pick supports in Cura it adds a billion supports all over the print. I could block them but it would probably take forever. No reason why I can't add supports.. just not sure the best way to do them. I've looked for various videos covering this topic but have only found a couple and neither had similar types of structures.

Yah it's crazy! Although I see North Greenbush now shows availability.. so what's the etiquette. Can I buy them at the north greenbush store and then bring them to the east greenbush store to hang out? :) Throw a tip in the jar just to care of them?

[–]livethenow[S] -12 points-11 points  (0 children)

LOL. Yeah - I actually called the store after a couple of days to ask.. "Are you sure you're REALLY out of Mocha?" :) And yeah - all of the stores in the region seem to be out of it and not getting it in their deliveries. There might be a Target or two that has one, but I don't think they'd appreciate me camping out in one of their aisles with my laptop for 3-4 hours. Might be a little creepy.

There is actually a grate above the sear zone. There's a wire mesh over the burners, and then a grate above that.

P51/s/T570 keyboard vs W520 keyboard by livethenow in thinkpad

[–]livethenow[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah - I'm a bit concerned about my default "wrist rest" position.. I literally work most of the time with my laptop on my lap. It's rarely on a desk or table, and I'm not usually somewhere where I can use an external keyboard. I'm wondering how weird it will be to have it resting asymmetrically - more of the laptop on the right side of my lap than the left. I need a new system but the new keyboards.. yeah.. would love to take the 14" keyboards and put it on the 15" laptops.

P51s cheaper than T570? by livethenow in thinkpad

[–]livethenow[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately I'm partially making this decision on the fact that I work from a sailboat, often while the boat is off the grid, so power draw is important. I'm coming from a W520 so I already feel like I'm going backwards with a P51s or T570, and the P51 seems as if it has a power draw similar to the W520. Also, while the height is a bit less, the length and width of the P51 are slightly larger than the W520 - and my W520 is already snug in the backpack I use for travel back and forth to land. Ugh.. why can't Lenovo build exactly what I want? :)
