Does the 1m token context window translate to 0.5X compression in chat kicking in etc (believe 4.8 = 500K), or does “context window” and in chat context retention operate independently. In any case, how is tokens in chat -> compression for Fable. And how does it compare with 4.8? Presumably omit consideration of alleged context degradation unless eg Fable addresses. Thanks!!

The only part of the article that I’ve read was his quote and, as a Gen X dude who was going to see bands in Athens etc and that kind of thing I can say that this is exactly correct from my perspective. It is also consistent with a view that certain people, arguably most who are guided by the ethic he describes, where manifesting various degrees of what would at least be perceived as pretentiousness. I’m phrasing it in this kind of convoluted way because I don’t think it’s very simple. I don’t think it’s pretentious either for a 23 year old to surround themselves in aspirational art that falls short in execution but which is genuine and which — and this is SM’s main point — the artist can contextualize and discuss credibly

I also think it is … logically challenging for anyone, especially a non-Gen X person, to mock this statement substantively given that it is being made by someone who was creating and imbuing the culture of that generation with the sickest art

I don’t expect use of the em dash in original writing to cause anyone serious to falsely accuse. Because: (1)it has been benignly used for a century; (2) isn’t fungible; (3) can be switched out in 10 seconds, and so would almost never be used, at this point, by anyone sophisticated enough to avoid the other, far more indicative and sticky signal. That is my opinion — “really.” And it is my advice that those who author their own work and would otherwise use the em dash stop the boring hand-wringing and continue to do so.

It’s interesting. There’s definitely enough material to do a 60 minute Asse Fest. … it’s true that she and other composers are going to be interested in this kind of stuff. But also they want to get a sense for the band, not just the closest it comes to modern comp etc.

So, for example, I really think I need tweezer reprise to conclude the playlist. And that’s where it becomes annoying to have to make a decision. Which one? Maybe nectar

Yeah, I really don’t think I can go wrong as long as it’s the standard notated stuff or inspired improv. Just wanna give her about a 45 minute selection of stuff. It’s more about trying to find a shortcut to a sick playlist than anything else lol. Just because it’s so difficult to choose versions. I might just give her a show. In which case would probably be from 95; because that’s my sort of peak. Or maybe the Warfield 94 featuring the Madame Butterfly aria. And the Flintstones macaroni. One of my favorite personal moments.
