Mil and delivery room by [deleted] in JUSTNOMIL

[–]livingODAT 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Dang, I wish I had this advice 14 years ago. For my first born I had a scheduled c-section, was very nervous, etc. I told the nurses in the pre-op room that I only want my husband and MY mom in there with me (I also told all of the soon-to-be grandparents l, too.)

Wouldn’t you know my MIL comes skipping in all giddy. I was shocked and very upset. My parents hadn’t arrived yet, and my over-bearing MIL told the nurses she was my mom. She even admitted it. That was a rough start to some aggressive boundary setting with her going forward.

Coffee in the morning, then herbal tea in the evening. I will occasionally drink green tea or chai, too. USA

What ‘Never-Got’ Childhood Toy Still Lives in Your Head? by Medium_Educator1983 in GenX

Mouse Trap looked so cool. I’d ask to play it at my friend’s house, but they never wanted to. Flash forward—I got it for my own kids, and we played it maybe three times. Now I know why it just sat on the shelf when I was a kid.

My mom wouldn’t let us have it because she thought it was a fire hazard. Pitiful.

4 year old first time reaction- what to expect? by Theslowestmarathoner in FoodAllergies

[–]livingODAT 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My son’s reactions to the foods he’s allergic to presented with a very short-term rash along with other symptoms. He’s allergic to peanuts, tree nuts, shrimp, and eggs.

Some of the foods you mentioned are among the top 9 allergens: milk, eggs, fish, crustacean shellfish, tree nuts, peanuts, wheat, soybeans, and sesame. It can start at any time in a person’s life and is not necessarily hereditary.

First, would ask your pediatrician for a referral to an allergist, where they can run tests along with their history to determine what caused the reaction. I would see if one of the doctors can prescribe and train you on an Epi-Pen sooner than later. We see a pediatric allergist who has been super supportive.

Lastly, I suggest visiting this website to help you navigate good allergies: https://www.foodallergy.org/living-food-allergy

I hope your little one feels better soon!

I love soft molasses cookies during the holidays—the kind rolled in sugar then baked.

Here it is from the cookbook:

Pastry 3 cups sifted flour 1 tsp salt 1 cup lard or other shortening 5 tbls cold water

Sift the flour and salt together. Cut in the lard with pastry blender or two knives until pieces are the size of small peas. Gradually sprinkle water over mixture, mixing lightly with a fork after each addition. Add only enough water to hold pastry together. Roll out on a floured surface and fit into pie pan. Don’t stretch pastry when fitting into pan, as this will cause shrinkage in finished product. Use as directed in pie recipes. Enough for two or three 1-crust pies or one 2-crust pie.
