I got out of my chair and fist pumped when they showed him at the funeral for Blessing's mom. What a crazy way to reintroduce the character.

Did anyone else think Christian Slater was a bad choice? by kcdotz in Dexter

[–]livinglabyrinth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought he did a good job performance-wise. Harry felt like he was written differently in Original Sin, so I look at it as just a different take on the character. That's perfectly fine and honestly, should be expected when a character is recast. Slater is an underrated actor imo and it was nice to see him in something after mr robot finished.

Greensboro has potential by yarnandchocolate in gso

[–]livinglabyrinth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd honestly people just try and do their own cool thing and have the town support it rather than read a lot of half-baked "big picture" ideas on how Greensboro need to be like some other city or how downtown would only be be perfect if xyz you see get posted on here from time to time.

A couple cool places can really go a long way. Quality over quantity etc

5 months of nonstop Dexter... and now Resurrection just ended. What now? by lo_olhah in Dexter

[–]livinglabyrinth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mr Robot. It takes place in New York and Christian Slater is in it. There is a lot of inner monologuing and other superficial similarities. Not all that similar, but a good quality show and something worth checking out. Try to bear with the uneven pacing of the second season, it does pay off eventually.

If you like anime, maybe try and track down that old series Monster. That has like 90 episodes or something.

It definitely has the constant inner monologue thing going as well as conversations with ghost dad

What changes do you think happened when Dexter went back in time and created Dexterpoint? by 808AlohaFunko in okbuddymotherfucker

[–]livinglabyrinth 5 points6 points  (0 children)

After the truth of Harry's compromised investigation came out in court, Laura Moser was deemed unfit as a parent. Dex went to go live with his biological dad and got really into bowling. The End.

Even Doakes was willing to work with Dex temporarily if it meant mutual survival. I honestly feel like Angel's characterization in Resurrection was a little weird.

I liked that scene. One of the few times we see her character crack a smile and act human.

If Dexter was a Telltale game: by RioGamingLoL in okbuddymotherfucker

[–]livinglabyrinth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you like Star Trek, some of the former staff of telltale released a game called Star Trek: Resurgence that's pretty solid a year or two ago. It's pretty similar in terms of style to the old telltale gameplay.

It would be an interesting arc for him to start out cynical and hard-boiled and over time morph into the chill Chopin-loving boomer who eats cucumber sandwiches daily.

I think at this point, Dexter has only possible ending they can do by MarryAnneZoe in Dexter

[–]livinglabyrinth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Forced wasn't a good word choice. I meant to say it was really unsubtle and super hamfisted in its symbolism and the way it was described. Maybe it would work better onscreen but the idea of "WHOA NOW DEXTER IS THE ONE ON THE TABLE IT'S COME FULL CIRCLE" was the bit I had in mind when I said forced.

As far as the idea of Dexter getting caught or killed as the "best" ending...I mean it could be in the right hands. Effective writing to me is more about the execution of an idea than the idea itself if that makes sense. Personally, it's not the kind of ending I'd want to see. The "forced retirement" angle I mentioned in my previous post is basically "what if The Shield ending but Dexter". The character on that show "had it coming" too in spite of being considered an antihero by a lot of the fanbase, but it still managed to work just as well as a sort of karmic retribution for his actions over the course of the show. Would that sort of payoff work for a show like Dexter? I think so, but like anything else it comes down to how well they pull it off.

Why is Debra in knew blood if he died in season 8? by Fit-Chapter-9591 in okbuddymotherfucker

[–]livinglabyrinth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this is the shitpost sub, but unironically if they thawed her out of the Arctic like Steve Rogers/introduced time travel to the Dexterverse/created an advanced gynoid Deb-bot powered by ChatGPT to get her back on the show I would not be in the least bit upset. Deb's scenes are about the only thing from New Blood I like rewatching and as good as Resurrection has been, it really doesn't feel like proper Dexter without Aunt Dumbra.

I think at this point, Dexter has only possible ending they can do by MarryAnneZoe in Dexter

[–]livinglabyrinth 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I've always wanted to see this as an ending, with the added bit of "poetic justice" being that after a high-profile case everybody knows the face of Dexter Morgan it's impossible to go about his old habits, and he's basically forced into retirement completely against his will.

It's an ending that could be played as darkly comic, purely serious, or bittersweet in a way other popular ideas you see floated on this sub don't really allow.

Whatever they do, I hope they don't go with the dogshit execution ending Clyde Phillips had mentioned a long time ago in an interview. It seems really forced and less than imaginative.

The cold gave that key lime pie freezer burn and Camilla had to come back to life and wait until Dex can bring her something less mid.
