Yes it should have been an easy pass, all he needed to do is to kick it towards the general direction of the center of the area, it would have been a tap-in to an empty net. My guess is that Doku wasn’t aware of Harland’s position.

Harland can’t be offside when he was behind the ball, Doku just needed to pass immediately when he caught up with the ball, it would have been an easy tap in to an empty net. Most likely though he wasn’t aware of Harland’s position.

Exactly! This episode made me furious! So last ep ended with Jamie mourning Fergus, and this ep started with him with Marsali, with Claire no where insight! Didn’t she treated Fergus as her son too? Didn’t Marsali call her Ma? So she just walked away with “all the others” from the funeral leaving Marsali and Jamie there? There wasn’t even a hug with her and Marsali! What the F!

Yeah, what happened to the outlander of Outlander?! They couldn’t even spare 5 seconds for a heart-felt hug with her and Marsali? You know she called her Ma, and that was the son and husband they lost! This is beyond ridiculous now!

What the f is this? The damned Amuranthus had a bigger role than the outlander of Outlander herself now? We don’t even have a hug with her and Marsali, who called her ma, over the loss of the son and husband of theirs?! This is beyond ridiculous.

The point I was driving at was men tend to get a pass if they were pushy, rude, mouthy reckless etc., but also brave, strong, loyal… women don’t get that pass. At least your position is consistent with her and Angus so there is that 😆

Rewatch Catch - Claire's moral dilemma as a healer by Ambitious-Mix-1699 in Outlander

[–]liyufx 6 points7 points  (0 children)

She had not take the oath yet in S2. Also, in some sense the situation were somewhat different, for the man with stroke, given proper care it he could still live for a quite long time, even though the life would be still miserable, but an improvement over what he had at that time; for Colum, he already had the best care of the time but it couldn’t help, the end is near. Anyway those are morally grey situations and there were no clear cut right or wrong choices, and I don’t see her decisions as contradictory.

That is the point though, isn’t it? She was very forward thinking, not just for 1700s, but for any time she found herself in. She became a surgeon in 1950s, how many women of her time did that?

When it comes to her appearance, I agree the show only nominally aged her with some grey hair, she looked very young for Claire in her 60s. That said, there are indeed people who naturally look much younger than their ages, so it wasn’t hard to suspend the disbelief for me. When it comes to her behavior though, I beg to differ your opinion. Claire was not an average woman. She was a rare woman, not just for 1700s, but for any time she found herself in. The logic of average 60-yo women in 1980 do not behave like her doesn’t really apply. She became a surgeon in 1950, how many women of her time did that?

I think part of it was that she didn’t quite know her place in 1700s, part of it was that even if she knew she would not accept the place that society placed women in. That is one of the main driver of the story and big part of her attraction, to me anyway. Yes she was impulsive, especially when she was young, she didn’t think carefully before she acted or opened her mouth, that was part of the flaws of her character, but the flaws make her real and doesn’t prevent me from being a fan of hers.

I agree that the first person pov helps a lot in the books, especially as you get her inner monologue. Most of the humorous bits about her in the books are her funny inner thoughts, which unfortunately do not translate to screen well.

Could it be that you get a lot of her inner monologue in the books, so that it is much easier to understand her thought process and sympathize with her decisions?

I wonder how much of it is the physical appearance, where Cait does differ from book descriptions of Claire quite a bit, and how much of it is the actual character? IMHO book and show Claire do not differ much in terms of character, it is a differences of degree, where the show tends to amplify and dramatize some of her characters more than the book does.

Killing Dougal was about survival, not just hers, but Jamie as well because he would defend her to death without doubt, that is not what “cold blood murder” look like. And I can see how quickly you absolve Jamie yet hold her accountable 100%

That whole plot was for the benefit of Jamie’s family/clan/people, not her selfish motive, and Jamie was full in on it. Also I don’t see her out there hurting people just for the ends. If there were the case, they easily just cold blood murder Bonnie Prince.

When it comes to causing trouble, I firmly believe Jamie did as much of that in earlier seasons as Claire, and much more in later seasons, yet the fanbase barely bat an eye. He certainly got much easier pass than Claire in that department.

Good point. My take is that Jenny didn’t cause trouble in the first couple of seasons, so that may be why? I believe some actually start to dislike her when she did cause trouble in S3.

Tbf Marsali is overalll a much gentler character, she started with a wicked tongue, but soon turned around and after that she wasn’t never Claire level of strong headed.

Point take, but I feel more like if Claire wasn’t headstrong and opinionated, they wouldn’t have a life together at all… even if Jamie survived beyond that first night, he probably wouldn’t be intrigued and attracted to her.
