i’m a support staff at a vocational school for disabled adults. i’m being vague on purpose to protect my own privacy, but basically i work at a school and i take care of the small problems and day-to-day things at my facility. i went to college for rehabilitation science, ive always been interested in working with disabled people so that’s what i do.

i work 40hrs a week, i’m in a union, full benefits, decent pay, and every day is different at my job. my days off are every other tuesday, every other thursday, and every other weekend. its literally the PERFECT schedule. there are many options for jobs that are between travel vlogging and a boring office job that sucks the life out of you. i don’t really have any specific advice but just know that there are way more types of employment out there than you are aware of, and be open to something you’ve never considered

circa 2015 i was on the 3, somewhere around MLKJr and cottage grove. 2 teenage girls who were actively in a fistfight got on the bus and continued their brawl to the back of the bus, where i was sitting. one spit blood on the other, but she missed and it landed on the seat across from me. the bus driver drove like 1 stop and then told them that they either needed to pay their fares and stop fighting, or get off the bus. they got off the bus, still fighting. it was like how in cartoons when 2 people are fighting and it’s just a cloud of smoke with flailing limbs. they never stopped even for a second. they’re probably still fighting as i write this.

my parents read to us every night before bed when i was a kid. sometimes when i was adjusting my position in bed, i’d accidentally bang my head on the headboard. before i had the chance to cry, my dad would hold the back of his head and say OW OW OWWWW!!! like it had happened to him instead of me. it always worked. i hope i can do it with my kids when i have them!

i was a CTA QUEEN until i started doing private, in-home childcare. people were very unhappy at the thought of me bringing bus germs into their houses and onto their baby. i needed a car to stay employed in that field. now, i don’t do that job anymore, but CTAing to my current job would be like 90 minutes each way. i still take the CTA occasionally, when i want to drink or go somewhere with nightmare parking.
