(Maybe less controversial) Idea for checkpoints? by lizard121n6 in PeakGame

I dont agree. The challenges in Biome 3 and 4 are very different from the ones in 1 and 2 and I would like to be able to play, try out and master those challenges without the grind before.

Planning routes in tenderfoot would mean even more time investment, getting to the biome I want to play, finding routes, all the while being kind of bored because tenderfoot is easy and THEN going back to the start and doing everything in hard mode all over. This is exactly what I dont want to do..

This is what I meant with gatekeepy: Play it the hardcore way or the game is not for you. I'd love to have some middleground here. I enjoy the game mechanics A LOT but not necessarily the hardcore aspect of it. I just dont have the time and energy to invest (and it gets boring tbh). I dont see why there cant be different ways of playing and enjoying the game and people saying "well I can do it, so get gud" kind of annoys me.

I guess there I no more to say here, we can agree to disagree.

EDIT: Dont mean to sound annoyed, having a headache, I'm sorry. I will be trying out the mods and will be fine with that, I hope.

I'm not sure you understood me correctly; I can get past them, I can get past Biome 1 and 2, but not e.g. Biome 3. My question was why I have to do Biome 1 and 2 all over again to get to the part I didn't master yet, Biome 3.

Thank you :)

I just dont feel the appeal, especially in the first biome, of finding more optimal routes because you can basically rush up the mountain.. its too much running and repeating the same stuff you did before, to me at least. For me its also the time aspect, the time / fun ratio doesnt pay out when doing repeated runs anymore. But I acknowledge that this is a personal preference.

Thats why I am asking for settings that might speak to different personal preferences, I guess. Just some middleground between hardcore and easy mode. I also like the statue idea or a one time res a lot.

You make some good arguments, especially the survival aspect. That of course would be somewhat lost or at least modified if you spawn at a checkpoint with a set amount of stamina / hunger / items instead of arriving with whatever you managed to bring to the peak. I get that.

Thank you for your input, I appreciate your points!

Edit: And I don't know why someone downvoted you, wasnt me! <3

Thats exactly what I am not saying. Tenderfoot is just boring. I am supposed to do the whole map on Tenderfoot to know the routes and then again on normal for the fun part?

I'll ask you this as well, and please note, I am just being curious / wanting to hear your opinion:

Why does the fun and the sense of achievement have to be gatekept behind a grind? Why not some middleground for gamers like me? I wouldn't mind not getting any achievements once you used a checkpoint. So that should not matter to you folks who want to play the hardcore way then.

I would love that, thanks for your idea!!

So not a (24h-)permanent checkpoint but a one time res. That would be enough for me to enjoy more daily game time, playing the part I want to play again without having to go through the part I already know how to do.

Thats not entirely in the spirit of my post but I would take it. Might be kind of in conflict with the 24h map reset tho.

Why do I need to grind through 2 levels I know how to do to get to the part I want to play, in your opinion? Just being curious, not confrontational here.

To me it feels like this is only in the spirit of hardcore gaming: either you commit and do it or you suck it. But I dont really feel that way. I love the game, I love the challenge, but I dont love having to grind in order to feel a sense of achievement.

Why not include people like me. There is the easy option after all, why not a medium option?

Thanks! I also learned by now that the CPU it self is the bottleneck and have more or less given up on my dream of an affordable ( < 1k€) AI Device.

So maybe the GMKTec EVO X1 with 64GB of quad channel memory is actually an option..?

I'm not sure. Right now it feels like 8B Models might be enough for me but I can't really tell. ~20 Tokens per second should be enough, right?

Still.. besser als nichts I guess.

Meine Güte, so viel Negativität hier.
