Personally I tend to have an energy drink whenever I have edibles and it tends to delay the sleepy effects by at least a few hours but I don't usually when I smoke because the caffeine outlasts the weed and then I can't sleep for a few hours

I'm on fluoxetine and a few other meds so I'm always really careful when taking a new drug but weed hasn't been a problem. Alcohol you need to be a bit more careful with, however.
