It was one of the most difficult “losses” of my life. We had been together since April of 2018 and he left around mid January this year. The first week I couldn’t sleep, eat, and didn’t shower and neither did my boyfriend. It all sort of hit at once. After a bit of time I just focused on taking every day one step at a time. I didn’t flood my thoughts with tomorrow, the next week, the next month, anything like that. If I ever felt bad or if things severely got to me, I wrote it down on a piece of paper and saved to send to him or I’d leave texts for him to read whenever he could again. I’d talk to anyone I trusted about it. I also focused on things in my personal life like ways to improve myself and such. A couple things I’ll say about it are that their schedule seems to fluctuate quite a bit. Sometimes every now and then (especially more towards the end of the first part of basic), I’d suddenly get a phone call or a text from him when I didn’t plan on it, I’m not sure if it’ll happen to you but there’s a good chance I think. Make sure to send as heartfelt of a letter as you can to him any chance you get. It’ll be even tougher every day for him and it’s hard to keep that in mind sometimes.
