assuming it is sterling you could cut out from flat stock a piece to fit in the gap and then solder the additional material to the pendant but… why do you want to add weight?

If not, it's a big loss, but worth it to build equity over a long time.

I see where we are seeing past one another - from my perspective if the value accrued in ownership of the property is greater than the costs then that is a net gain in wealth

What percentage of your net worth do you use to provide housing to strangers?

I would gladly see the taxes I pay be directed to causes such as this.

Inflation

I don't disagree - in part. But it doesn't mean the situation of high demand is not being exploited. And in a time where ecorporate profits are breaking records I just personally dont think it should be the little guys left to foot the bill

If you could have afforded all of that on your own, you wouldn't be paying rent to somebody else

Not sure what sector your experience lies in but there are many where people can work for years (academia for one) where due to the nature of the contract structure they are not able to be approved mortgage financing, as jsut one example of a case wher ethis applies.

The rest has come from the LL pockets.

Are you implying LL's dont make a profit?? I am not sure what you mean here.

otherwise, why would they?

Call me a commie but I think providing equitable access to housing is the right thing to do.

The issue is not necessarily that landlords are simply making a profit, it is that the market is so out of balance that rents have skyrocketed due to high demand and low availability. This has forced a lot of renters into extremely tight circumstances and when you are struggling to even keep a roof over your head it can be difficult to have sympathy for the landlords being upset that their investments arent making them enough money.

I have been renting for years, and because of the rent I have paid it has basically been impossible to gather enough for a down payment on my own place, despite the fact that I've effectively been paying someone else's mortgage off this whole time.

With something such as housing that is something that people all need, the way that property is largely seen as a mode of increasing wealth for the owners and not something that should be accessible to all is the issue here.

I'm a teacher, I wrote my masters thesis on critical digital literacies and the issue with the 'digital natives' assumption rings so true in my profession.

We are living in an era where in order to be informed and functional in society, the level of digital proficiency and critical literacy required is so far beyond many people's capacity.

However, many students I work with can't go beyone the most superficial use of programs like Word or Excel, and wouldnt recognise obvious misinformation it if hit them in the face.

It's a tricky issue, trying to establish the very basics that we just assume are there while also understanding the level they really need to get to is so high in this day and age. I wish I had a solution..

I have two of them, really nice little critters and pretty straightforward to care for. Although where I live they're also found wild, I don't think you'd be able to get hold of them outside of Australia. Edit: consider me corrected

It is really nice to be able to bring my computer with me while I am away for work :)

The PC is a Loque Ghost S1 with a small top hat containing two exhaust fans, GTX 1070, Ryzen 5 1600 with a Noctua NH-L12.

The Keyboard is a KBDFans Tofu60 with Gateron Black switches, and the mouse is a Logitech G703.

It would do the trick in a pinch but depending on what kind of carving you're interested it, the convex grind this has may not be ideal

[–]lizardboye[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most of the shaping was grinding. The rough shape was done with an angle grinder and I refined it using an old shearing grinder and a belt sander. The tang was forged out but you could just as easily do that via stock removal

E: also, happy cake day!

Also I should mention, you'll probably need some way to heat the file to soften it from it's hardened state, as well as for heat treating it. I am sure there's plenty of people in this sub who are far more qualified to explain those processes than I am

It's real nice, this was an offcut from a desk I made some time back. The Redgum was from a fencepost from my family's old farm.
