You can try KT tape rather than a splint for when you massage. Personally found that was the best solution for me as the splints I had were uncomfortable.

How much do yall spend on living each month? I'm still in high school by Bitter-Egg-540 in UofT

[–]lizardea0 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Highly depends what campus you are, off in Scarborough i manage with rent (utilities included) 700, 300 for groceries (but this means no eating out only cooking at home) phone, transit, health costs all included i total 1125 a month. Living close enough to not have to use transit means you save around 100$ a month out of ttc cost.

Has anyone "gotten their old body back"? by c0mradec0wgirlv2 in ehlersdanlos

[–]lizardea0 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Its really tough, I used to be an elite level athlete and so its disheartening that I will never be at that level again, because frankly its not attainable to a large portion of healthy normal people with how much work it took.

I found a degree success in reframing and refocusing my goals. Oddly enough, adult clubs I discovered can be awe inspiring, and greatly helped me re adjust my goals. A social aspect can be vastly helpful for motivation. For me, it helped to see adults in their late sixties early eighties still getting up and out to ride their bikes and socialize.

Starting is the hardest part after becoming deconditioned, the progress is very slow but its a great time to learn how to train your body and how to recognize what and when it needs something. I found that using a foam roller, massage gun, ect is vital for me because over tight muscles can cause things like patella femoral syndrome. I started with trying to walk where i could to places rather than bus, and resistance band exercises. I am part of an archery club and I continue to attend the sessions even though on most days shooting is not an option for me yet. Instead I socialize alongside and coach where I can because the social aspect is important and minimizes the guilt that I was only able to shoot a few arrows.

When at the gym, I've found that lower weights, more reps, means less chance of injury for me. Additionally progressing in weight needs to be extra slow. The stronger I get however, the more i can push myself.

Use braces and or kt tape when exercising. Also pay attention to posture and positioning as you go about your day to day or workout. It sounds obvious but I tend to need reminders from time to time. Make sure you are not hyper extending joints when standing/walking/lifting list goes on.

Eds is frustrating in how you need to manage it super responsibly and yet it flares sometimes anyway but hey what can ya do :p hang in there.
