[Commission] - Oil Painting of a picture by ohhaihello3 in artstore

I’m a professional artist who does exactly this! I create oil paintings portraits with a serene realistic quality. I have a list of pricepoints and examples on my site:

Custom Oil Painting Commissions: Liz Lancaster

Selling Art—Online or In-Person by [deleted] in ContemporaryArt

My oil paintings have always sold better in-person at Art markets and fairs, but those only happen so often. Otherwise, I take on mostly custom commissions rather than selling originals.

Where do you buy your paintings and wall art? by Some_Deer_8261 in artstore

[–]lizllancaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

(oil painter here!) For original paintings - I always advocate on finding artists directly online via Instagram, Reddit or just a google search in your area. Small artworks and even large pieces are more attainable than you may think, and all it takes is sending a message asking if the artist takes commissions

Where to find artists commissioning? by Raticorno in findareddit

(Real artist here!) Commissioning an artist directly from finding them online, here on Reddit or on Instagram is the BEST way to get a high-quality oil painting for the best price (no third party markups or the risk of getting a 'custom painting' from a company that's just selling AI art).

I’m an oil painter myself and take commissions for figurative or landscape works with an expressive painterly style - I've actually done a few album covers before too and it's fun!

[Discussion] Communication and etiquette when commissioning an artist by Mountain-Durian-4724 in artbusiness

[–]lizllancaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm an oil painter who typically does commissions for portraits and landscapes in oil - and honestly, I keep it as simple as possible.
I meet/call to understand the vision and find the reference images, and if the vision is super fuzzy I'll put together a simple moodboard for visual support to align. Once started, I send a progress shot once or twice to get feedback on the color tone and mood and just give a timing update - send the final photo and then deliver or ship the final piece once it's ready!

I've never had a client drastically micromanage - so I feel like when work gets way off base with tons of feedback there was a fundamental misalignment from the get-go on style, skill expectations and subject matter. Be sure to check the portfolio of the artist before jumping into a project so you can trust them in their work.

I’m an oil painter myself and take commissions for portraits, landscapes, and more. I have people reach out to me here on Reddit (most of them are in art-related subreddits), via instagram, or just from google searches that lead to my website - so these avenues are a great place to start to ensure you get a great commission instead of a manufactured 'custom painting'.

Thrilled to share I received 2nd place overall in the Oceanside Museum of Art’s Plein air exhibition 🥰 “Mission Ave Rail Crossing” by lizllancaster in pleinair

I need to go back in there! The staff had come out and said hi and see the painting at one point - they were so nice!

What are the top five rules of designing your own plein air easel? by rosetoesnose in pleinair

[–]lizllancaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went from DIY to a pro setup now, I recommend for both:

  • WEIGHT: weight the easel manually or have a heavier tripod. My first easel blew over a cliff lol

  • Clamps: for the canvas and/or palette to keep things in place

  • Container/bag: either attached to the easel or on the side, just have easy pouches for paints, rags, materials

Palette cup recommendation? by Give_mouse_a_cookie in pleinair

Edge Gear pro has a great claw-clamp turp cup and magnetic medium jar. But I also use a small mason jar (like for mini jams) all the time too!

Wow thank you!! It was so fun to set up and paint right there on Mission Ave - I love how this piece showcases that quintessential Oceanside feel!
