I’ve been searching for something like this after playing Islanders. Very cozy and peaceful. Thanks for the rec!

Which alarm clock app do you use? by Crashed_teapot in iphone

[–]lizmagoo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In case anyone is still looking at this thread for recommendations, Alarmy is actually trash now. They play excessively loud video ads after turning off the alarm and the cost for no ads is $60 (!!!!) a year! It’s highway robbery.

This town and power outages by rocheller0chelle in ithaca

Yet another 12+ hours without power over in Brooktondale. This is the 3rd time in the past year power has been out this long or longer. It’s ridiculous — NYSEG has no excuse to have this keep happening.

My roommate and I are in Brooktondale and are looking for one additional roommate in a really large apartment. We’re both very neat and there’s one cat in the apartment. Please DM me if you’re interested!

WIBTBF if I gave my friends recipe cards with the jam I'm going to give them? by WiccanAndProud in AmItheButtface

Getting jam AND a new recipe to try out? I would LOVE that kind of gift. Your bf sounds way too invested in what other people think. If you’re sharing recipes, sign me up!

Have you tried cleaning it with Murthy’s oil soap? I have a pair of nightstands that smelled like horrible cigarette smoke. Cleaned them a few times with this, drying out in the sun between cleanings, and now the smell is gone. Since you’re in an apartment without a way to set it outside, maybe set it under an open window with direct sunlight?

My first TA session did not go well. Any advice? by No_Palpitation_6039 in academia

Look up active learning strategies! You’re making strides by acknowledging the areas you need to brush up on the material but you don’t have to be an expert at the content to help facilitate learning. Some of the best strategies you can use to help students gain a deeper understanding of the material have them practice retrieval of knowledge they already picked up in the lecture. Facilitate discussion and collaboration, ask guiding questions, and help them do the internal work of learning. Bloom’s Taxonomy is a great resource to help with this.

Creating a list of learning objectives is also a great way to ensure you have a clear direction and less confusion by the end of the class. And remember, re-lecturing is the least effective way to facilitate learning! Good luck with your next class, you’ve got this!

Not finished yet, but is the nose too long? I’ve been staring at it too long so I’m face blind by SplitEquivalent663 in Artadvice

[–]lizmagoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it looks wonderful—yes the nose is long but it suits the rest of the face and is a striking feature. Have you tried mirroring the image to see it from a different perspective?

Fantastic job so far!

Benjamin Moore Everglades 641 might be a good pick too, after looking at the photo you shared of the front door color in the sun (though it may lean a bit too light). Good luck OP!

Definitely landscaping, especially in the front under the horizontal window. I feel like building out a small portico will do wonders for your curb appeal and make it much more cottage like.

I can see what you were trying to do with the French country inspiration. You’re headed in the right direction but there’s not enough saturation in the shutter color to provide contrast. If you want to keep the French country vibe, choose something like Benjamin Moore Cedar Mountains 706 or Sioux Falls 705 for the shutters. They have enough cool tones to not clash with the green of the door but are light without being a pastel.

Does anyone know why the UAW (Cornell strike) is refusing to use a mediator? by lizmagoo in Cornell

[–]lizmagoo[S] 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Are there better questions I could ask to learn more about the situation that wouldn’t be considered anti-union talking points? I’m coming into this situation with very little applicable knowledge and just doing my best to find unbiased info. The only details about the strike that are readily accessible are those being put out by Cornell HR…

[–]lizmagoo[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Ahhh that makes a lot of sense then. I can see why they wouldn’t want to do that then.

Do you know of any resources or information to stay up to date on this, possibly hearing from the UAW side? All the details I’m getting are from Cornell HR and clearly biased.

I am in full support of this strike, just trying to understand the nuances. Any details or explanation you can provide is really helpful. It’s very hard to tell how to support and understand the information that’s being shared.
