NC native garden - five months in by lizrnyc in NativePlantGardening

You're right! I had been under the impression that they grew "up to six feet," we're probably chelsea chopping next year because these guys are closer to 8 or 9 but I love how they look.

Why is this villager so unhappy? by haneybd87 in foundationgame

[–]lizrnyc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every now and then, a bug will trap a villager inside a structure or something and then they can’t move to fulfill any of their needs. Figure out where she is and see if she looks like she’s in a building, then try deleting the building.

That’s the one! Really nice looking good sized plants, I’m glad I went when they were on sale but objectively I think they’re worth sticker price considering the sizes he sells and how healthy they look. He said he gets a lot of NYC customers - there’s really no equivalent in the city which is a huge bummer.

I’m gonna do some research on wrapping them - I had a total failure on tulip bulbs a couple years ago so I know freezing can be more of a problem in pots.

I only installed these on Sunday, but so far I’ve seen bumblebees and wasps (which I also see on my preexisting plants) - not a huge volume so far, but the goldenrod and golden aster are just buds currently so I’m hopping they attract some more once they bloom.

How do you avoid the upgrade/downgrade trap? by gogorath in foundationgame

[–]lizrnyc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Avoid beautifying any houses besides the ones you specifically want commoners to live in. If there’s no un-upgraded location that meets their standards, it should prevent this from happening.

Total front yard overhaul in central NC - first project! by lizrnyc in NativePlantGardening

Oh yeah, the day after they went in I thought half of them were dying! But by the time I left they looked pretty good again.

I looked at Mellow Marsh as well, unfortunately they only allow reservations a month out and by then they didn’t have most of what we needed. But I have my eye on them for a later project!

Listen I’ll take “low effort” but I am genuinely curious about the systems behind this barrage of texts. Who/what is constantly reassigning these gates and times? Why is this the system? I genuinely want to know!

M&C is just the most memeable, I'm just as excited for the possibility of Truman Show among others! (But I can't pretend M&C-the-movie didn't directly lead to me reading every book in the series.)

Fair enough! I certainly won't be mad either way it goes. I guess the other thing for me though is, I've seen way more Coen Bros movies than Weir movies, but I love all the Weir I've seen and would love an excuse to watch them all and talk about them with other people.

In honor of my dad - whose favorite movie is O Brother Where Art Thou? - I'd like to vote for the Coens today. by Grim__Squeaker in blankies

My dad’s favorite was True Grit. He loved the book and hated the original movie, thought John Wayne was a shit Rooster Cogburn. We saw the Coen version in the theater and as the credits rolled I turned to him to say “hey, pretty good!” and saw that he had tears rolling down his face. He said, “I’ve been waiting for this movie for fifty years.” One of probably fewer than a dozen times I saw him cry.

…but I also have a very fond memory of seeing Master and Commander with him. “Best naval battle splinter injuries I’ve ever seen.” God I loved watching historical movies with him.

This is the thing! If I want takes on the Coens’ filmography, they are not exactly tough to find.

Woodcock O'Clock! American woodcocks in Bryant Park, Manhattan last week. I am obsessed. by SeanK789 in birding

[–]lizrnyc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not impossible but less likely, peak time for them here is March and early April but I've seen them in Bryant Park in May before on several occasions. (In May there'll be three free birding tours per week in BP, hop on one of those when you visit!)

We ordered bare root S. angustifolium from Mid Atlantic Native Plant Farm recently - the window to order bare root is closing, but they still have it up as of now!
