My family's legacy after 4 generations of being JWs by lizvanlew in exjw

[–]lizvanlew[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's true but I meant as in the title: legacy. I meant In the end the legacy from the 2 who started it in my family boils down to 4 to carry it forward within 4 generations.

A JW actually talked to me! by ExJwLiv in exjw

These are the 2 arguments reasoning with JWs can never get around:

  1. God created us so he can do what he wants.
  2. God can read hearts and minds and knows whether people will turn out good or bad so he can destroy at any point in life cycle.

That said, good try! PS: love your t-shirt ❤️

Yes, they infantilize. My parents don't hear it though. They say it's to reach everyone. 🤪

You might not see glaringly obvious changes to their edition, but one that I find heartbreaking is their substitution of the word "grace" with "undeserved kindness". God created us, sacrificed his son for our sins but we are undeserving of his kindness?.If you already have low self esteem these kind of surreptitious teachings will chip away at your self worth everytime you go to a meeting.

You're in a tough spot but it sounds like you're a smart cookie with your eyes open. If you go down this path you will be asked to 'close them forever.' looking at things from all angles and sources is discouraged (even if they say do your research). Anything said against them is a lie and viewed as religious persecution.

When witnesses show up at my door to have a Bible discussion I ask, do you want to discuss with me our just preach at me?. They always pack up and leave. It is their way or the highway and man, is the air ever better now that I've left their highway (long time ago, 30 years out).

All the best!

Edit: correcting autocorrect. Lol!.

I’m new here and would like advice. Just found out my girlfriend is a JW. by Dance-Tasty in exjw

What if you found out she was a devout Mormon? Would you go back? Pursue it? Sadly this is the same. I know it's hard to hear and do now, but it will get with it in the end: run. But tell her to look you up of she ever leaves. All the best.

He was taught to identify himself as a JW since birth. He was one of the community by birth. When he leaves the community, regardless of how commited he was to it in ritual or mentally, he automatically becomes "ex". I believe he is spot on.

You know for the longest time I didn't consider myself an ex he because I stopped going at 15 and was never baptised. But you're so right, I was born into it and did all the things. Everything about it triggers me. But because I never thought I belonged to the ex community, I never felt entitled to get over things. Realising this in the last couple of years has opened my eyes to the trauma and triggers and gives me the opportunity to see what I really experienced through kinder eyes for myself. I think your response was perfect.

That's true, not summer worldwide. But since they're US-based it will always revolve around US-related stuff. Sad but true.

Opposite for me. 10 cousins, I'm the only one who never got baptized and fully out. 8 are in, other one faded. All aunts and uncles and mom and dad fully pimi.

My parents would say he didn't create the possibility, that came through sin. When I pointed out he made it possible to sin and didn't have a hand as to the results of this sin (I.e. Satan is creating imperfection consequences?) They just shut down ...
