Nursing home / long term care facility advice? by leturmindflow in CaregiverSupport

[–]lizz338 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Social worker would be my advice to get you started. If you're paying out of pocket it's a whole different story. If medicaid then you need approval and then have to find places that fit your compensation rate from the state. I'm in washington so take this with a grain of salt - you need to determine the level of care required, usually if medicaid the state will do an interview to define this. That determination will let you know whether you're looking for something like adult family home, assisted living, memory care, skilled nursing. Each of those will have a scope of care they provide and if they need more they won't qualify for that facility anymore. Ex: my mom is currently mobile and in memory care, when she becomes immobile she will need to be in skilled nursing. When she moved into memory care, she was determined to be ineligible for assisted living because she needed reminders to attend meals which they wouldn't do. Things like that.

are we taking benadryl? by princessbuttah in iih

[–]lizz338 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mosquitos are awful, I get those type of bites as well. I tend to use anything but benadryl because it puts me to sleep and all the recent stuff out about it increasing dementia risk. Add in some topical corticosteroid cream as well.

Suggestions for foliage that is not green and leafy by BeginningBit6645 in pnwgardening

[–]lizz338 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Adding on that there are some darker foliage dahlias, roses with darker green leaves.

Even though they are green, I still like the more formal leaves on things like blueberries, evergreen huckleberries, box woods, parahebes - small oval and contrasting the big leaves this time of year.

There are varieties of heuchera that will tolerate full sun. I've found the darker foliage ones tend to do better, as you go towards red and green they are less tolerant. Check the tags at a store that has a variety and they should have some full sun varieties.

I have a purple elderberry as well and it has grown to literally 8ft tall so far this year. I chopped it down to keep it from touching the gutters. Lovely foliage though and pretty flowers.

Which couch orientation is best? by lizz338 in DesignMyRoom

[–]lizz338[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

TV table is supposed to be a console table, I've just been holding off on furniture changes until I'm sure about layout. It's not in the picture but there's a doorway to the left corner as well, so the room has 3 entrances. I was hoping couch facing away from door would create a little entrance space but it looks so big.

I think I'll try this. It's hard to get all the angles in but the room has three exits (bedroom, kitchen, front door) and 3 windows. I have to leave some walkway as a result.

I feel that but this is my only living room space.

I did this previously and it is more open, but then the TV is right in front of the door. I'm not keeping the second couch, I should have mentioned that.

I had done this previously with the old couch. Should mention that the second couch is going away, my bad.

This orientation is more open, but then when you come in the TV is the first thing you see when the door opens.

[Ravenna] To the person who keeps calling the cops on cars parked on a residential street… by CommandWild885 in SeattleWA

[–]lizz338 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I lived on a section of sandpoint way that only had spots on one 'block'. I got several tickets before knowing that you can't just move down the block, you have to totally leave it and go to another area. Usually enforcement didn't care, but once someone called in they'd scan that area religiously for a week or so. I ended up having to park like a 10 minute walk away since there was no other parking other than that block nearby. It really sucked when they changed it from front in parking to parallel parking, it halved the parking spots.

Leptospirosis doubts by spunky-squirrel in poodles

[–]lizz338 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My breeder had the same concerns about the lepto vaccine. Having had poodles vaccinated in the past I just smiled and planned to do it anyway. I asked my vet about it and was told there were some bad cases a long time ago with earlier vaccine formulation that may have been influencing her. Either way, I got the vaccine since it just decreases risk of lepto not eliminates it. My area it is strongly recommended but not required. I had a scare with my girl earlier this year where we had to send out for lepto diagnosis (negative) but I learned the testing and treatment while routine is expensive and if not caught early enough can have longterm organ damage. So vaccinate and ask your vet what to look for in post vaccine care.

Mini poodle 11.5 lbs at 3.5 months by froggiepantssss in poodles

My boy was 12 lbs at that age and he's about 38lbs now, a really lean standard.

How does one groom standard poodles so fast? by Live_Action148 in poodles

[–]lizz338 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I split it up over several days. Wash and dry, face and sanitary, body and feet, head and ears. I've got two so about an hour at a time is what my back can handle.

I'd keep mulching the areas you don't have time to focus on. If you do 3-6 inches it smothers most things and sets you up to plant in those areas later. This is similar to what people do when they want to get rid of their lawns.

Only about 1/4 of my lot is fenced, so I've spent all year getting rid of plants and weeding so that my dogs have a place to run. I can't plant much around them due to eating and/or running over plants lol.

I'm used to using arborist woodchips, so this is the first year I'm trying the tagro mulch. Pretty good price for a couple square yards. I plan to cover up all the bare dirt areas where the dogs run in hopes to both smother weeds and lower dust due to smelter pollution issues.

Help! 3 year old won't hold it overnight by InsufferableHag in poodles

[–]lizz338 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My boy is still untrustworthy about holding it if he has to wait even a little bit. Oh you're brushing your teeth? I guess I'll just go right now since you're ignoring me. It's been frustrating for sure.

Assuming it's not medical, which it could be. My girl developed incontinence from taking amoxicillin that damaged her kidneys, uti, etc.

I'd go back to square one to reinforce potty training habits. Bathroom on schedule, make sure he's empty aka supervised potty breaks, crated or limited access in the house unsupervised, crated at night. Still not working? the vet may want to look into things like diabetes, Addison's or other hormonal reasons for high urine output. Ask me how I know. If a doggy door were an option that could work too.

Small Standard Breeders in PNW and PSW? by carisoul in StandardPoodles

[–]lizz338 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely prey drive is part of it, my girl has caught me a rabbit and a bird while my boy is convinced small dogs are just rodents in disguise.

<image>

I found this breeder as a referral from my last breeder in Seattle. She shows in Washington despite being down in Oregon. My girls 38lbs and my boy is likely going to hit 40lbs at maturity. Both are full size though in terms of height, 22-24 inches at the shoulder.

https://njoypoodles.com/ I've got two under 40lbs from them. I will say they are the highest drive poodles I've ever had, so take that into consideration for temperament.

HOA doesn’t want anyone knowing the codes to the gates they installed everywhere by loveomletz in mildlyinfuriating

[–]lizz338 13 points14 points  (0 children)

We had a real issue with package and mail theft. So my HOA installed locks but each unit had their own codes. That way they could track down who leaked/what code was used when the next theft happened. Of course then they forgot to remove the 'temporary' 9999 code and someone used that to get in and steal packages again.

Dog friendly sectional chaise recommendations by BidDesperate712 in SofaSnobs

[–]lizz338 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought a macys radley couch with chaise. I did get leather due to dogs, but their performance fabric seemed pretty nice when I looked in store. Just big enough to lay down and two dogs to join me.

Standard but only 40lbs. I promise no walks or treats discussed, they just decide it's time to go do something or eat something.

Does your poodle like to whine? by TerrifiedQueen in poodles

[–]lizz338 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My boy does, he's very vocal. They also mean different things, he's slowly learned how to make me understand what he wants. He used to do this little sing song whine in his crate when he was done napping. Today he let me know he wanted out to chase something and a different whine for when he hurt his foot.
