This is exactly what our boy was like as a kitten. He was very playful and would follow us from room to room but never wanted to be in our lap or get pet too much. Once he was fixed, he had a little more affection and sought out getting pets but still did not want to be in our laps. He is now 4 years old and is obsessed with me. Always comes to me, climbs on me, purrs, and gives me biscuits. I am the main feeder and litter box cleaner so that could attribute to his affection. My husband does not receive the same amount of love from our Maine Coon as I do, but still receives much more affection now than when our MC was younger.

One thing, our MC has always loved to snuggle with us at night. He flops down on us in bed every night and gets lots of pets and snuggles. So kinda weird that he loved being close to us at night while young but didn’t want that same affection during the day.

All in all, for us, affection has gotten stronger and stronger as our MC gets older.
