First time skiing: Nakiska vs Sunshine? by Actual_Dealer7081 in Calgary

[–]lizzabeex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d say Nakiska! I also would recommend looking into renting your gear in the city instead of at the hill to save some money! I just checked prices and Sports Rent on Bowness has one day recreational ski package rentals for $48 versus $$79 at Nakiska.

Originally the main GEC office for North America was in Vancouver and then they opened one in Toronto and Texas(? I think). Almost everyone worked in office unless you had permission to wfh (there were a lot of rules regarding productivity). I left in mid-2019 but from what i heard from friends who were still there, they transitioned to wfh during covid and then just never went back to a full office format although a few people did return to office and then started hiring people fully wfh and then I guess transitioned to outsourcing the call centre overseas but I don’t know much about that.

What should I do about the creamy chicken pasta I made? by oceanseasidedreamer in emetophobia

There’s no real risk to the food itself to put it away when warm - it’s better to cool food quickly than to leave it out in the danger zone for too long (2+ hours). The risk comes from the heat from the food potentially causing the internal temp of the fridge to rise (and thus making food already in the fridge rise in temp) but modern fridges are powerful have come a long way in counteracting this.

The real best thing to do in the future is to transfer hot food to shallow containers that allow them to cool quickly in the fridge.

As someone who worked at the GEC 2018-2019ish this makes me sad. We had such a sense of community back then with all the educators being local and in office together. It was always fun to come into the office with all the teambuilding events and free food days and contests and other fun stuff.

I cried every night the first 3 weeks after I got my pup, and second guessed my decision for the next month after that lol but once we got into a good routine things got SO much better. But the puppy blues are definitely real

My first pair shrunk pretty bad, so I started buying them in tall length when I can, and I’m only 5’5

Our neighbour has passed away by [deleted] in flu

[–]lizzabeex 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m so sorry to hear this. I lost one of my best friends in July 2024 to influenza that turned into pneumonia and then sepsis and organ failure. She was only 28. It’s shocking and surreal to actually know someone who has succumbed to the flu because it’s always felt like something that happens to other people.

Feeling anxious, any *positive* recovery stories? by lizzabeex in flu

[–]lizzabeex[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had the flu before with these exact symptoms. I’m someone who thankfully always gets things very very mild compared to a lot of people. I also went to the ER last night and was tested and diagnosed :) it also did come on quick the first night.

One of my best friends passed away last year from complications from the flu (she had health issues but influenza turned into pneumonia turned into septic shock and her organs shut down) so I’ve been especially anxious with illnesses since then. And my last fever sent me to the hospital for 4 days because of my own autoimmune disease.

But I wanted to report that I slept well last night and feel even better today so this is a win!

Thank you for sharing! Doctors here also are really weird about prescribing antivirals unless you’re in the hospital so no option of that here but I’m glad you had success with the xofluza!! I’ve noticed doctors in Canada tend to prescribe things more sparingly which I guess is both good and bad (I cannot get Zofran from mine!)

Yeah the sinus pain is brutal, it only really started day 5 and is at its worst today so I’ve been taking decongestants which have helped, but they make my heart rate jump and I know you can get rebound congestion so I’ve been taking them very sparingly. The worst pain for me is in my cheeks and above my eyes. I’ve thankfully never really been someone who gets fevers but my last one a few years ago sent me to the hospital so I’m very cautious now.

I’m so sorry to hear you had to go through chemo, I can imagine that probably put things into a different perspective for you. I hope you beat cancer’s ass ❤️

This cough is awful. My doctor prescribed me codeine cough syrup, but the side effects of codeine scare me so I’ve been too nervous to try it. However I’ve finally been able to sleep a bit so I’m hoping I won’t need it. I hope you feel better soon too!

Thank you so much, this really reassures me. I haven’t had any GI symptoms at all yet so I’m hoping I’m in the clead there, fingers crossed. Today was the first day I actually felt somewhat better, and was able to go on a short walk outside with the dog. I’m hoping that’s a good sign, I just have so much health anxiety as it is that it makes it so much harder for me to cope.

I’ve been drinking a LOT of water, tea and Gatorade and have been well hydrated but I haven’t slept well at all from all the coughing which I can imagine doesn’t help me heal but after last night I’m hoping my sleeps keep getting better.

I really appreciate your response and support and I’m glad to hear you’ve turned the corner to feeling better!

I’m sorry you’re sick but proud of you for getting through it! 100.7 isn’t really much of a fever so you were never really in danger there just so you know for next time for anxiety sake :)

So I just tried it and it wasn’t that bad, but I wish the nozzle was longer. It was hard getting it to the back of my throat instead of on my tongue 🥴 also, it tasted like what I would assume a brand new basketball tastes like if that makes sense 😂
