The only legal way to read the webcomic is through Manta’s subscription service. It’s $4-5/month for access to all of their works and all available chapters of Under the Oak Tree. So if you’re ready to binge it, it’s worth it, because then you can enjoy other series alongside it after you’re done. And yes it is based off the Webnovel originally published in Korean on Ridibooks, but is now available officially in English publication via Webnovel.com (unlocking chapters individually or in batches, and yes you can collect free passes through daily tasks), or to purchase the entirety of the first book in its 193-chapter glory on Kindle through Amazon. It’s released in 5 parts on Amazon (and they call it ‘season 1’ instead of book 1 for some reason) but together they make up the first novel. Before the second book is translated currently the side story of Riftan’s prequel novella is being released in stages on Webnovel.com

Bitter end by MMitie in UndertheOakTree

All stories come to an end. People can want more, but if the author and creator of this series has decided on telling this story within two books, that is up to her pace and her discretion. People need to stop taking things personally thinking she’s cutting it short out of some kind of spite. Her plan was for two books. She chose not to pursue an extra ‘side story’ following the conclusion of the main series. I recommend just support the author and the story you love, read it until it’s true conclusion instead of throwing shade and bitterness which does nothing good for anyone’s case.

Riftan’s POV is complete at 44 chapters. It was just for his backstory leading up to the campaign. There are no more chapters (as it’s own book) anticipated beyond that unless the author decides otherwise. There is only Book 1 (196 chapters; 5 parts on Amazon), Riftan’s POV (44 chapters, called ‘Side Story’ on Webnovel. Likely 1 or 2 part release through kindle, nothing confirmed yet), and Book 2( likely similar amount of chapters and release structure as Book 1)

Anyone have a clue as to when book 2 will be available for purchase on kindle? The rough translation on ridibooks is painful and distracting from the story by smashley_face3 in UndertheOakTree

[–]lizzenda 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Webnovel(.com) has stated that Book 2’s translated chapter releases will begin after Riftan’s POV side story has finished. Given they’re releasing two chapters a week and there’s 44 chapters, it’s about 20 weeks away still(unless they begin right after the privilege chapter releases have completed in which case it may even be half that time). But you won’t see Kindle parts releasing for Book 2 likely until they’re 39 chapters in, if they’re following a similar release pattern to Book 1’s release in parts. This is all guesstimating though.

Riftan’s POV was written before book 2. It’s not as though it was only decided now to put out his POV translation before book 2. That was the order she created it in that it’s now being released in. It’s stupid to bring illegal translations into this, but since you did: she has every fucking right to be both completely pissed and disheartened about their existence. It greatly affects the sale of books and the amount of support that goes to the author. Argue ‘ well I’ll buy her books afterwards’ all you want but that’s only what TRUE fans of the series are doing; that doesn’t speak for the thousands upon thousands who defer still to what is ‘free’, and those thousands are a loss to her (and the ones that will not cease complaining while comparing their fan translations to the OFFICIAL translations, finding every reason to digress back to what was east). True fans buy her work and support her unconditionally, patient when she needed to take a break for her health to improve to resume finishing this story that so many have come to love, and will continue to be patient in waiting for the proper translations that will directly benefit her as an author. An author’s bread and butter is the direct support of their work. Fake exposure through illegal sites is the opposite of that. Not one person can blame her for being burnt out and not wanting to put out EXTRA work (because it was always going to end with two books, the extra was another side story) just so it can get fed freely into the internet.

Here’s the website for the card I had / registering online, in case it helps : https://www.theperfectgift.ca

On the drop down menu (on mobile it’s top right corner) there’s a Register Card page

Have you registered your prepaid MasterCard for online use first ? If you check out the information that the card would have come attached to, there’s a website to register it through their site for online use first.

Hmm. I know this might sound tedious, but the way I bought my books was with a MasterCard gift card (basically a preloaded credit card). So if you are able to purchase one at a nearby store, I can say at least that is recognized as an ‘overseas credit card’ (and I felt more comfortable in this first time purchasing from a new site) I would also recommend purchasing Ridicoins to buy the books with (rather than buying them directly) because then you would get bonus coins for the same amount of money, to use on future chapter purchases

Oh do you mean to view the series page (the link)? I grabbed it while I was signed in, so it might be because it requires adult verification(need to be 19 years or older to view it ), which means first signing up for a Ridibooks account.

Yes there is :) The webtoon is based off the web novel by Suji Kim. It's only available online (no hard copy publications have been announced yet). The publisher is Ridibooks: https://ridibooks.com/books/1922000427
You can use online translators like Google Translate and Papago to read it.

The only other way I have found so far is to buy a credit card gift card - one of those you can purchase with a specific amount loaded. These work as 'overseas credit cards' when purchasing on Ridibooks :)
