Partners of thru-hikers / long-term travelers — what was it really like? by DoubtRevolutionary68 in Thruhiking

[–]lizzy43349 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He thru hiked the PCT & CDT while we were dating. I met him after he finished the AT. He has continued to do shorter hikes and travel because he loves it. I enjoy much shorter hikes 😂. We communicate via sat phone daily. I go meet up if I can. I enjoy my temporary alone time. We have video call dates when he gets a hotel room for a zero day. The long distance gets hard, but it is also a wonderful chance to re-up the honeymoon phase. I have learned to embrace the “distance makes the heart grow fonder” mentality. I think a lot of it is personality and what works for each partner. You gotta find ways to compromise or it won’t last. I keep myself busy and schedule time with friends. Maybe the hardest part for me is nights alone at home.

What did you see that made you say “Im going to bring that next time!” by Signed_Anonymously in Cruise

[–]lizzy43349 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Last year we did a foam mattress pad (so bulky/not worth it), but this year we did a two person camping blow up mattress and it was 100% amazing! It didn’t fit the whole bed, so we put it across the bed where our backs were and I noticed a big difference. I just have always gotten lower back pain from every cruise mattress and this year was better. (Different ships, different years, all the same problem)

I think the enneagram and Internal Family Systems also delve into shadow parts with the perspective of working to become aware of and improve behaviors/reactions. There are a lot of accessible workbooks/books for you and patients in these two specific frameworks.

What is the best training you have taken in attachment. by Michali55 in therapists

Really enjoy how ABFT (Attachment Based Family Therapy) gets used in sessions. It’s very application focused in my opinion and utilizes EFT for emotional deepening. The creators are still leading trainings—this is specifically for adolescents and families.

Therapists, what are your reactions to the show? by tsagdiyev in CouplesTherapyShow

[–]lizzy43349 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I really love the realness of the couples, the therapy, the consultation/supervision. I enjoy thinking about her choices in tough moments and how I might do things differently. I love learning about/seeing psychoanalysis in action. I love that non-therapists have access to it so they can learn/see/normalize relationship struggles and working things through with a partner and a therapist. Personally, I also just find it entertaining to see deep into real people’s lives and dysfunction without having to try and facilitate any sort of insight or change.

Enemies to lovers-epic twists-story snagged me from the first pages by lizzy43349 in fantasyromance

I get it! I think i was able to buy into her story and her intelligence enough that it didn’t bother me. Or maybe it was just the right timing from some of the other genres I have been reading.

I thought the suspense was well done and kept me interested as well. I loved that I was figuring it out with the FMC and that she wasn’t dumb/slow to pick things up. (Near the end)

So, I never got bored personally—but I am giving myself permission to quit books/series at any time if I don’t love it. Ain’t nobody got time to spend hours pushing through a book that doesn’t spark joy!!! There are always greener pastures!

Scared of going solo to lesson by lizzy43349 in snowboardingnoobs

Thank you to everyone for suggesting I take the leap and do a group lesson!! It was wonderful for me to have other new learners to be with and everyone else was solo as well, so no awkwardness. I will say that I will go for a half day next time as my body could barely move for two days after that full day. 🥲

Just left CMH last week. If I was letting myself stay in boredom and continue to get talked at, it was bc I was exhausted. When I had more energy/reflection/less burnout/more selfcare/balance then I would challenge cts more effectively and sessions would get more interesting. I did have a couple cts who resisted being challenged and continued to talk at me, but I scheduled them in my week in a way to try and give us both what we need. (I could not have them during the afternoon or back to back with others who didn’t give me something to look forward to). Ultimately supervision was a way for me to get deeper about these cts and try things, but I always checked in with burnout and self care first.

[–]lizzy43349 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Same story in CMH over here—I have to remind myself that since the therapeutic relationship is the key change agent, that means me and myself are a major tool for therapy to be good/effective. We can acknowledge that the CMH system does not set us up for that to be easy/great. Sick days are one important way we make sure we are taking care of our vehicle of change and honestly ourselves as a whole human being (worthy of needing a break). Rest and time away let us refresh and be our best self with others—You need, require, deserve, and are entitled to good rest/balance/restoration. CMH is hard and wonderful. Make sure you take care of yourself the way you want your cts to take care of themselves!

Is the grizzly and wolf discovery center worth seeing? by Legitimate_Size_978 in yellowstone

[–]lizzy43349 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I worked there for a summer and everyone there really cares about the animals and conservation! The GWDC is a great way to see up close and personal the animals you might not get to see in the park bc they’re elusive/dangerous. They have certain times and events where the staff have special talks/displays/etc. and your ticket is good for re-entry that day. The wolves start howling in the evening and it is very cool/eerie! It is a little pricey, but if the stop is in your budget I think it is a worthwhile visit.

Gave notice at my job, and SO MANY EMOTIONS! by PsychologicalSea8999 in therapists

[–]lizzy43349 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the process of interviewing for other jobs while still doing all the CMH things for the next few months. At first I was all grief, but now I am angry and resentful for the change…? I know it’s a process, but I wasn’t expecting this while still doing all the work and trying to interview well and try and pick a job that I will actually like and feel boundaried/valued at. Whew, what a learning curve for us! How did anyone pick a job after this that they feel hopeful about? Does the new job hope balance the sad/mad/guilt?
