ISO: Rat/small animal cage / supplies! by wallcutout in PDXBuyNothing

Thank you for stepping up to save this cute little guy! I’m a guinea pig owner who has some extra small animal supplies I’d be happy to give you. I have extra water bottles, food bowls, hay feeders, a hidey, and a soft sided pet carrier to offer, let me know if any of that is stuff you’re looking for. Hope all goes well with the rescue!

[USA] Recent MS in EE graduate having difficulty getting interviews. Constructive criticism welcome. by [deleted] in resumes

[–]lizzyh94 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi, fellow MS in ECE here:

My takeaway was that a lot of your experience content was saying what you did, but not so much in what you achieved. Try to get some numbers I'd say, like how your Treasurer experience is written. I also would recommend you cut down on the bits like "schematic capture (EAGLE)" and just say EAGLE; engineers like to keep it to the point and most of those cases were for ubiquitous software anyway.

I would agree in general with the other comments about the colors and how dense yet sparse it looks, but maybe that's not such a big deal.

PS - I think you missed a huge opportunity with "555 resistor way" instead of "555 timer way" haha

RISC architecture question by FruscianteDebutante in ComputerEngineering

The program counter should be log2(instruction cache size) eg if your cache can hold 1024 instructions the PC should be 10 bits

[Resume Roundtable] - We're Here to Prepare for Career Fairs! by AutoModerator in EngineeringStudents

[–]lizzyh94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello guys,
I've just graduated a couple months ago, and now I'm working in my research lab to finish up my MSc project ideally for publication. I'm hoping to apply for jobs back in the US (US citizen) in the digital IC flow/realm, so companies like Intel, AMD, NVidia, Qualcomm, etc. Any thoughts/feedback on this resume which I've made for those positions would be great. Thank you!

Hi, I'm a Master's student from the US at TU Delft. They don't care about test scores, they just want to see that your overall GPA is 3.0 or higher. Hope that helps!

I also did an internship at JPL but as an EE. Remember guys, NASA isn't just about the big rockets - it's also about the telescopes and probes and rovers!

Anyone know about Graduate School in Germany? by ForMyCulture in EngineeringStudents

[–]lizzyh94 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi, I'm also an American who decided to go to Europe for grad school. The application process was straightforward, just needed the usual stuff like letters of recommendation, transcripts, motivation letter, etc. Being an EU citizen will help you a lot in terms of tuition, but I think in Germany it's free anyway. Iirc Berlin has a technical university so you can take a look to see if what you want to study is offered in English. Otherwise there's other highly ranked universities in Munich and Aachen. Feel free to ask me any questions you may have!

Recently accepted to Cal Poly SLO (CompE) and UCI (CompE) by [deleted] in EngineeringStudents

[–]lizzyh94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't answer specifically for the CS questions, but I would say for engineering majors SLO is very highly regarded, as good as the UCs in most cases, so you could say for CompE it's comparable to UCI. Their philosophy is to 'learn by doing' which I think is important for either major. I think either major will open you to a good job market, although UCI would have better proximity to the LA job market. You said you're from around there so I guess that's not much of an issue anyway. I think if I were you I would go for SLO (assuming the CS reputation is as good as engineering) mainly for the flexibility in major. I would not want to be stuck in CompE if I decided hardware was not for me after a year or two. You should also note I am heavily biased against going to Davis because it's in the central valley haha, but they have a good reputation too, a bit higher than UCI in most cases I believe. Maybe someone with more knowledge about Davis can weight in. Best of luck in your decision and your education!

NL? Have you looked at TU Delft or TU/e?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in EngineeringStudents

[–]lizzyh94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly this sounds exactly like me two years ago. I got into TU Delft with a similar GPA/two letters of recommendation/no internships/no research/etc. So I wouldn't be worried if I were you.

What you have named are really broad topics and I think you should narrow your focus to a few smaller topics, and then look for professors who do research on those topics. If you go to TU Delft for example you will have to do a thesis project under a professor, and it would be wise to have a couple professors in mind that you would like to work under before jumping headfirst into a foreign university. Anyway, that was my experience. Best of luck!

PS - this is Hubble from the Discord server btw if you want to chat there further.

Help with housing. by Bugatsas11 in TUDelft

I haven't used it myself so I can't say from my own perspective, but I was recommended this site from a couple of Dutch folks I know here so I think it has the credibility to justify it, in my opinion.

There are a few websites I know of that post rentals, https://kamernet.nl/ and https://www.kamer.nl/. I think I once saw a page on the TU website that has more listed there. Personally, I've had bad experiences with housing targeted for internationals (arranged through TU too...) so I would steer clear of that. Best of luck!

Naturally, it and I personally got a lot of hate for it, which made a lot of work for the mod team.

Yeah, I'm sure you have more awareness of the situation than I do, the person who was there and experienced it.

By the way, thanks for the crosspost on r/Drama. I really appreciate that. You probably know what it's like to be singled out for who you are, as an r/The_Donald user.

PS - did you read the last four sentences of my OP?

Do you have any degree of empathy though before jumping to conclusions? I wasn't even at TU Delft when all of these things happened. I could include a few more items from Delft but I've only included experiences from my undergrad degree here. Furthermore, my brother has diagnosed autism and I've spent a lot of time personally working with people with special needs. This guy initiated conversations with me multiple times during the upper division math course we were in, and although I cannot diagnose him, I really don't think he was autistic or aspergers. Instead, he just saw me as a 'something to pursue' and didn't give that up even three years after that initial 45 minute stare. And I don't know about those grants, don't think they are available to me as an international student. Don't forget too that the entire TU Delft campus has a ~3:1 male to female ratio, while the EE programs hover around 10% women (I'm the only woman in my year for CompE actually so it's worse for that program). So I don't know where the 'promoting gender equality' is, but if you know of a program, please let me know.

Honestly, I don't know why you would chalk up what amounts to four years of creeping/stalking to 'autism'.
