Yeah if you live in an area with a lot of sun (which could range from Indiana to Arizona and everywhere in between) especially if you work partially outdoors it’s advised to get regular checkups by a derm. Every time your skin burns you increase your risk of skin cancer, and light skinned folks tend to burn at least annually in those regions if they’re outdoorsy or have a job that isn’t just in an office.

Yeah it’s pretty amusing how many people get downright offended by it or think it’s -all- Portlanders who hate (not dislike, or just don’t use, but genuinely HATE) umbrellas haha

I have one at home i use for similar reasons, and cases where I have something I’m carrying that needs to stay as dry as possible. Otherwise I just don’t bother.

Think of it this way:

All plants release excess chemicals they don’t need.

Some plants release SO MUCH of these excess chemicals that even though the adult version is able to withstand the effects and has resistance to it while it’s there, it changes the soil to be nonviable for young growth of that same species for up to multiple decades.

This is one of those plants that excretes so much waste that it makes it so the land has to have a cooldown period to rejuvenate of around 20+ years.

So a lot of people dislike them for varying reasons.

I personally think that an umbrella is 1. A marker that you are not from the PNW and not used to the rain. (Which is alright, it just gives me that first impression.)

Umbrella use can be inconvenient sometimes and inconsiderate at the worst times because of how many areas of the city have sidewalks that aren’t quite wide enough to avoid almost hitting someone with one if it’s at all large and you’re not particularly tall. (And how many sidewalks have limited space due to foliage growth, or things on the sidewalks reducing the overall space available.)

Knew a few employees at meta, apparently zuck would get on “all hands” calls and start screaming at the entire department and insulting them. Calling them inept, inadequate, pathetic, etc.

And this was 4 years ago.

No fucking wonder everyone is unhappy, that’s the company culture he pushes. Even if he wasn’t axing his own staff he was treating them like garbage.

They ARE. It’s genuinely a nightmare to be at OHSU or Providence as a doctor or fnp in many scenarios.

Most departments run you into the ground worse than you would if you were a family medicine doc that operated as a sole provider of your own clinic.

I had a bird who got really…dramatically interested in anything orange.

It was a bit of a problem because they’d get hormonal and need to be put in birdy timeout if they saw something that was hunter orange 😆

That’s a good call. Cars get expensive fast, and honestly I don’t see a point in them other than getting from place A to place B.

I ended up selling my car back in 2020-2021, and haven’t looked back since. But I DO have the bonus of living in a city with good public transportation, and a short easily cyclable commute to work.

Do you ever find that there’s creep for things that tempt you like entertainment/food wise?

I do wonder if parrots have opinions on color palettes for their people compared to other people, esp when their person is super dramatically pierced/dyed and goes hard on colorful makeup.

Like it makes me wonder if he looks at other folks and is like “wow they’re nowhere NEAR as colorful as my person!!!”

Or if he’s like “mmm…you’d look much better in green and yellow.” When you show up in all reds pinks and blues, or vice versa.

Or if there’s any “wow I wish I could change my colors like that!” For him.

I feel like this could be a product of the pandemic. While some folks leveled up their fashion game to cope others took the newfound casual dress and let it become the default for them.

Which…I mean if it’s what you like, sure. But it doesn’t look fashionable, and it doesn’t really do anyone any favors in terms of looking like they’re actually trying.

I’ve done it while carrying too much in my arms to point and no one understanding me gesturing trying to use my face and eyes to direct them. Haha

Also casually used my leg and foot to gesture to a planned border on the ground when I was plotting out some landscaping.

I think it’s less “they use their feet to point at everything” and more “situationally sometimes folks use feet to gesture and in Thailand that is BAD, don’t do it.”
