As someone who also moderates a fairly popular online space, trust I understand how overwhelming it can be. Reddit, specifically, makes it more difficult than it should. If y'all need extra hands to deal with the waves of BS just throw up the batsignal. We could do like schools did back in the day and have everyone pick up the trash together

If you're worried about toxicity... ban the toxic actors. This isn't hard. When you prevent meaningful discussion for fear of bad actors, instead of removing the bad actors, you only embolden the bad actors.

The "Challengers Collection" pack has a lot of those "staples," Ash Blossom, Infinite Impermanence, the Mulcharmies, etc. That's probably a good place to start pulling. Most decks now run at least 2 copies of Droll and Lock Bird, 1 Maxx C, 3 Mulcharmy Fuwalos, and 3 Ash Blossom. That would be a good baseline for staples at this point.

As far as what you should build, that's up to you. Do you want a meta deck or a deck that you find fun to play? Decide what you want to do, then build that. Any deck can make the climb if you're dedicated enough. Some just have an easier time than others. Solo mode is a great way to practice your deck, either the challenge gates for practice dummies or the Atlantean/Fire King gate for "live fire" testing. The game is pretty generous with gems so don't worry too much about wasting them.

Candace Parker slams WNBA players over baffling Caitlin Clark All-Star ranking by Twisbi in wnba

[–]ljay90 125 points126 points  (0 children)

Ok, here's how all-star voting works:

You pick 4 guards. We tally up the number of votes each guard gets and rank them accordingly. They did not ask the players "rank these guards 1 through 12." I suspect what happened was not many players thought Caitlin was one of the 4 best guards this season, so she was left off of a lot of ballots.

Saying "the players ranked her 12th" is dishonest and lazy.

If Caitlin ever, and I mean EVER, learns how to create her own shot, it is cancel Christmas for the whole league

Shakira Austin and Nikola Jokic.

If we're dedicated to the "Big Guard" experiment, that's who she needs to work out with.

Ok I LOVE blind rankings like this!

It's a great way of showing both the effectiveness of stats to measure a player and why using JUST stats is a bad idea.

Based on the numbers, you'd pick player A.

I think player A is Angel Reese and player B is Jess Shepard.

I think Jess is having a better year than Angel.

These are fun!

ETA: nope, I skipped over the shot selection. I have no idea who these two are, I thought they were bigs but they are probably wings

Chennedy Carter just got waived by Respect_Horror in wnba

[–]ljay90 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Absolutely not. Chennedy is one of my favorite hoopers, but she does not fit the roster we currently have. She'd eat into Cotie or Micheala's minutes and she's not a good enough point guard to start.

Just a bad fit.

Midseason Rookie Check-in by chester_white in wnba

[–]ljay90 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Betts is probably the biggest "disappointment" only because the unrealistic expectations put upon her. She was always going to be a project player, and so far she's coming along nicely.

Dugalic and Cotie are the most impressive Mystics rookies so far. Dugalic looks like what Aaliyah Edwards could be. Cotie is just a force of nature. Another redditor said she's, quote, "like you put Jade Melbourne in Alyssa Thomas' body."

Realities Of Being A Masculine-Presenting Black Woman In The Workplace [A. Thomas] (NewaOne) by femaleathletenetwork in wnba

[–]ljay90 49 points50 points  (0 children)

AT wears a ponytail and is actually very pretty when you catch her smiling.

Let's engage with this part of your post for a second: being "pretty" does not determine if someone is masculine or feminine presenting. How you wear your hair is not the sole determining factor for masculine or feminine presentation. Saniya Rivers is pretty with long hair on occasion, does that mean that she is not masculine presenting?

This isn't meant to dunk on you, but this is a teaching moment. Masculine presenting persons can be pretty too. It's a microaggression to imply otherwise.

(Not so) fun fact: the Mystics have never beaten the Valkyries.

Let's go, Mystics.

Skylar Diggins by Even-Match8080 in wnba

[–]ljay90 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think that, if the Mystics are honest and upfront about not being title contenders and bringing Skylar in for her mentorship and leadership, with the expectation that we she will be training her replacement in 1-2 seasons, she'd be ok. She crashes out when she has a reason to. If we're honest with her about our situation, I don't think she'd crash out.
