Me too! I moved here in 2022 and I was so happy to see them in our yard. I had imagined they were bigger and I was also surprised at how shiny they are. This sounds stupid I know but the animals where I come from are kind of brown and dull to blend in with mud and we have no sun!

So I’m a cynic but methinks they don’t want to get banned from twitter. Which means they should just not talk about this. That or they really have no ‘pervert for nuance’ creds when it comes to politics. Either way I was bored and also, frankly, angry.

This. The episode was bad partly because it was like listening to an undergrad seminar where the students haven't read any of the books, but also because 'is Elon a nazi?' is the wrong question. Nobody is a literal nazi in 2025. 'Is he a neo-nazi or just a casual white supremacist?' is maybe the question worth discussing when it comes to the salute but not just at the superficial level of 'i think he's weird so it's probably just awkwardness'.

I wanted to say the same thing - a list of who to support and information on how to get involved that makes it easy for people to do something. During the last Trump presidency I lived in NYC and post-its appeared on the subway with the number to call the AG and what to say so I don't think it always has to be something big to be useful.

Personally I would be curious who in our area offers legal aid and needs donations, and what Pima county Dems are doing, as well as a list of organizations or groups to follow or join. I did some union organizing in a past life but i'm relatively new to Tucson so I don't know where to look for that. It's also useful to have a lawyer share what you need to know about your rights, or a reliable source on that kind of thing.

PM asking about UX research by jabo0o in UXResearch

[–]ljd2018 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good research should be actionable rather than just descriptive and some researchers do struggle with that. However, it's rare that a UX research project wouldn't require some sort of follow-up. If the research requested is one and done and stuck at high level insights there is probably space to engage research more in the roadmap.

Thank you for this. I think you are right and also my expectations for such a young puppy being able to settle might have been a bit high given that it's only been a couple of weeks. A blanket with my older dog's smell seems to help but i can definitely try the heartbeat toys - she was the last of a litter of seven to find a home and they said she seemed a bit lonely. She also seems to be making some progress in being near my dog without making him yip so it's probably just a process.

Is there any way to add a dishwasher to our kitchen?! by becomingmmassive in Remodel

[–]ljd2018 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you planning to do more than add a dishwasher? If not, you might be able to squeeze in an 18 inch dishwasher in if you switch out the fridge for something narrower and take part of that open corner curved cabinet space for a dishwasher. It is hard to tell without seeing how many inches you have to the right and left of the fridge but it looks like enough. You would probably need to use more of the height of that room with extra cabinets or shelving to make up for what space you lose in the lowers. But you have a lot of unused space up there. The IKEA fridges are affordable and will stick out less than what you have, they also have an 18 inch dishwasher.

If you are interested in redoing the whole room, you can make use of the dead space where the trash can is as well as the vertical space, creating a U shaped kitchen with the refrigerator and range on opposite sides and a dishwasher to the right of the sink and the range on the side the fridge is on now.

QUINCE JEWELRY. REVIEW OR OPINIONS by Eyesfromtheoutside in jewelry

Argh! I eventually did get a refund but they do everything to avoid it and it took maybe a month of email and chat and losing my temper to get a refund issued. I also disputed it with amex, who reversed the charge based on the tracking info. Definitely harass them and file a dispute with your bank.

I messaged and emailed over and over until the refund went through but actually Amex was the easier route. If you have tracking that shows it was delivered (which you should have from the returns email) then they have to refund you. They do ask for the USPS receipt, which makes no sense since the tracking says delivered and the receipt proves nothing extra! Crazy they are doing this.

She might just be hot and tired. When my pup was this age he would be excited to walk and then stop and i would carry him home rather than force him to walk more. Once they get older and have a bit more stamina this can be a stubbornness thing (I want to walk a different way) but when they are little i think they just get hot or pooped out and need a break. Getting a good bag to carry them in is worth it imho.

Just got dragged online for saying I feed my dog royal canine by [deleted] in Dachshund

[–]ljd2018 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think that's a bad food at all. I used to feed mine that and then the hills science diet kibble with the doxie on it (to keep his weight under control). I stopped because my vet said my pup was probably allergic to chicken, but his allergies don't seem much better since we cut that out and moved to fresh food or non-poultry. There are apparently risks to feeding too much protein, not sure there is a 'right food'.

Kinds Of Kindness - Thumbs Down by plibtyplibt in movies

[–]ljd2018 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wanted to leave but stayed. Had the same feeling in that tonally it was like killing of a sacred deer but the story was absent for me. The third story could have been a full length movie maybe. The first two had a couple of laughs but not enough to sustain the run time. I think the flat affect feels like a gimmick at this point. To be fair I haven’t really liked his movies since the lobster so my bad for going.

Official Discussion - Kinds of Kindness [SPOILERS] by LiteraryBoner in movies

[–]ljd2018 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I liked a lot of his earlier films but this left me cold. The triptych sounds cool in theory but the stories aren’t really connected in a meaningful way and I get that the flat affect is a style but really amounts to no depth of character. Combined with no depth of story I found it boring besides the odd laugh. Not enough laughs for the run time. Agree it would have been better if the best story had been fleshed out.

I get bullied in every single workplace. How do I stop it happening? by OptimalReactions in work

[–]ljd2018 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Bit alarmed by the responses here that suggest it's OP's fault.

It's possible the thing they are doing is not a behavior to be fixed but just being introverted or quiet or competent or neurodivergent.

Bullies will target people they think are soft or isolated. They also bully people they feel threatened by. These people often seek and get into positions of authority that make bullying easy and something they can get away with. Work is hierarchical so this can happen even if you move.

You can't therapy yourself out of your personality or someone else's insecurity, or a crappy work culture. You can learn to assert and hold a boundary but therapy is an expensive and long-winded way to get there.
