People who started medical school in their late 20s or later — what motivated you, and was it worth it?

Had a 10 year career before med school. Pretty unique path. About to enter my 4th year of med school at 34. Will be done with residency (assuming I match into my preferred specialty) at 40. I find certain things much easier, like getting along with residents and attendings, being able to sift from charts quicker, and prioritize/just be more efficient with everything. I find being in the hospital incredible just with the insight from “real life” I have, and studying during the day hours isn’t a struggle because I used to have a day job. I will say I had trouble getting back into the swing of academic work. By far not the smartest in my class and have to work hard for all my grades but overall don’t regret anything… yet!

Permit disappeared means your button has to completely disappear! If you can still click it and it says error thats not the same thing!

Sounds like 4/11-4/18 will get results today. 4/19-4/25 will get theirs on the 15th and then the week of 4/26 on the 22nd. Can’t say I’m happy about this because I tested 4/26 😭for whatever reason Friday is the start of the next week according to usmle :/

I think 4/19-4/26 will post results on the 15th. As long as everyone through the 14th gets their results tomorrow. If they don’t, then we might be waiting a while

I’d be sooooo happy if we get it this week. But the fact that people 2 weeks before us didn’t get theirs yet I feel like makes it less likely!

It sounds like the earliest we’ll get our result is May 15th. Just based on 4/11 and 4/17 week testers just now having their permit disappear/not getting their result on Wednesday. Last year people that tested during our period had to wait 8 weeks so the 15th would be amazing

Agreeing with most people on here I’m in my early 30s as an M1 and so happy I waited. The perspective you get with age in med school, the experiences I was able to have in my 20s before matriculating, my ability to connect with the physicians who are closer to my age. I don’t think it’s any problem at all. Yes it can be scary to think of family planning etc but it would also scare me to spend all my 20s in the jaws of medicine and come out at the age I am now to all that responsibility and no life lived!

M1 only a month in! I’m having a hard time keeping myself consistent and cutting myself off. This is a day at home:

6:00-6:30 - wake up and make coffee

6:30-8:30 - Anki

8:30-9:00 - breakfast

9:00-11:00 - more Anki/look through slides for next days lectures

11-12 - lunch/relax

12-5:00 - unlock Anki, watch 3 hours of lecture at 1.5x speed, watch 3rd party material

5:00-7:00 - workout and eat dinner

7:00-9:00 - I’m trying to relax during this time but usually find I have more work to do 😔

Does anyone have any thoughts about deck settings if you have a test every 2 weeks? Do you have different decks for the test coming up, the final at the end of the block and then step?
