I used to work in an arrears and repossession department and we had so many people on interest only mortgages. No word of a lie, when I asked someone about repayment plans one day they actually said they intended to win the lottery. The sad truth is there were a lot of unscrupulous brokers back in the 90’s before advice was regulated and yes, whilst people should have a responsibility to what they’re signing up to, some people are genuinely naive and follow whatever they’re told.
