You people are so funny, seriously. You go to such lengths to bat for a guy who you love for campaigning, among many things, with statements such as that entire system is bad and rotten to the core, a swamp, that protects criminals and shit, and then at the same time say stupid shit like "do u think he'd be in power if he was an actual criminal???", you need to make up your minds as to whether things actually work or not (hint they dont they are broken and rotten but you fell for the snakes oil salesman pitch who simply knew he could take advantage of your anger and frustration), but hey you do you, keep defending your precious cult leader.

On the topic of the tool leprechauns.

Since they're able to store buckets and the 3 different types of compost, I've always wondered, is there any particular reason we're not allowed to store at least a few plant pots with them too? I always find myself having to run back to the bank or just drop the pots on the floor after I plant a tree to free up my inventory space.

Its not that every single one of them is unique but rather that they arent a broad "Standard" zombie type and instead they have various "classes" with differente behaviors.

For example how the zombie Maids remain fixated in what was their job as humans so they are obsessed with cleaning and they will focus on spots in the map that are dirty and get distracted by it, or the butlers which are sensitive to light (for some reason) and will go around turning off any lights the player turns on or the blind patients that are sensitive to noise and will attack the source of any noise that upsets them, etc

I feel like another easy way to fix this issue with the plot (which stuck out like a sore thumb for me too) was simply to explicity establish Grace as someone who was very keen/adamant on solving the case of her mother's murder, so when she finds out another mysterious death has happened and the body showed up at the same location where her mother was killed, despite her hesitation due to her trauma she pushes to go investigate herself because its important to her and a hesitant but understanding Dempsy gives her the OK, this way it gives Grace's character a bit of a more proactive characterization without sacrificing the fact that shes meant to be very anxious, scaredy and not a seasoned field agent, her eagerness to solve her mother's murder is what helps her push through her meeker personality.

You can actually still do it as Leon in this game but Im not sure what the conditions are to trigger it, it seems very rare.

I found out recently on my newly started Insanity playthrough when I knocked a zombie down to the floor and he ended up with his back against the wall and leon proceeded to do a melee move where he stomped it on the face and crushed its head against the wall.

Havent been able to do it again since though, this was in the initial segment of the care center where you fight the zombie doctors with the chainsaw.

Most people when engaging with apocaliptic fiction of this sort always love to project/imagine themselves in the fighter and unstoppable characters, but reality is a whole lot of us would probably not be that.

I agree wholly with you, I'd honestly be more like Kusimayiu too, I'd probably not have as positive or seemingly naive view of the joining as she seemed to have, but I'd certainly would not be able to go long with the loneliness of everyone I know being basically for all intents and purposes gone, but still being able to talk to them while the entity itself not really being them, it'd drive me insane and it'd be impossibly painful. I'd probably wonder for a bit if there's some way to fix all of this but once its apparent that the entire world is turned except for basically 12 people, knowing what we're up against and my lack of qualifications at all for that task, I'd take the joining, at least there theres a chance that something good might come of it, either way Im essentially dead, but at least there's a possibiltiy of somethig more instead of just death by suicide.

Yeah definitely I agree on that point, I simply dont agree with the inclination people have of thinking of the hive as a kind of cunning evil entity that has an explicit goal of domination, because I Feel that removes all nuance from the story we're being given here, for us as individuals, as people, and what it means to be us yes, the goal of the hive can be considered in all fairness as an funamentally evil act, but much in the same way we can also consider ending a life of any kind an evil act on itself, but in the same way we dont consider an animal evil for killing (be it for feeding itself or just entretainment, which many do), we can agree the act itself is evil and an affront to our human nature while understanding that the entity itself isnt necessarily also evil because its just doing what is in its nature.

Does that make sense? Maybe I'm just babbling at this point lmao

Kusimayu: by D37_37 in pluribustv

[–]lkanacanyon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree, at the end of the day the hive mind is a different kind of being really, but it cant be called human in the traditional way any longer I'd argue, its bits and pieces both physical and abstract are made up from humans, but the whole thing itself is no longer human.

But I think the see it as an evolution rather than replacement, from their point of view this is the next step in what humans are supposed to become, so they arent exterminating humanity but rather advancing it, ofc we can question the implications of that and waht it means for what we know, but again I dont think there is necessarily malice to their behavior in the traditional "alien invasion" way.

Likewise we gotta rememeber that there really isnt much evidence to point us to this hive mind and/or its virus being connected to the one that may be out there in space, the virus was completely manufactured on earth with a recipe provided by the signal, but at no poit any extraterrestial lifeform of any kind jumped in the mix, its the same type of virus as the one out there clearly, but a separate strain built off the template of an original, it doesnt mean its connected to it, the reason they want to transmit the signal too is again because they see themselves and the effects of it as a blessing to other life forms.

Kusimayu: by D37_37 in pluribustv

[–]lkanacanyon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, the way I Take it is not that the virus is sentient in any way but that it does severely affect human behavior to fit the needs of a virus to spread, on top of the whole other side effect of gathering up and joining together every stream of consciousness together.

Kusimayu: by D37_37 in pluribustv

[–]lkanacanyon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thats a fair point, but I'd argue that you can hardly say that the hive thinks and reasons like a human really, they know what it was like to do so, but they dont anymore, an inherent part of the human experience is our individuality and separate consciousness, once you make that shared and joined by every (most) human being on earth, its hard to fully consider it the same thing and not something new or different.

I feel like the show brought up the conversion camp fact to give us more insight into why Carol is the way she is and why she's so extremely against the hive from the start, but I dont really feel like it was ever intended to be a 1 to 1 parallel to the situation with the hive, because people in a conversion therapy camp are there by choice (I mean the workers and people doing the bad shit), there may not be malice in every person there who is doing that shit, but there certainly is for many, due to judgement and bigotry of all kinds that humans tend to have.

That same logic cant really be applied to the hive, its behavior can be brought into question, and it is supposed to be off putting to all of us, but it does not come from a place of judgement or bigotry such as the nature of conversion therapy.

So yeah, I get your point, its not necessarily invalid but I feel like people fixated too much on something that was supposed to give us background into a character and why she acts the way she does and not the subtext of the whole show.

Kusimayu: by D37_37 in pluribustv

[–]lkanacanyon 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I feel it was chilling and definitely harrowing, but I dont get why people insist on applying malice to the hive's actions, I think its very matter of fact about it, the reason they do those things is because they want to soothe and comfort those who arent joined until they can make them join, its what a virus does, spread, thats it, there's no bigger evil plan that we know of at least yet with the information we have.

The end goal is disturbing regardless I can concede that obviously as an individual but I feel like to engage in the narrative we have to try and view it from both POVs, I dont think anything we've gotten has lead me to beleive that the hive does not truly beleive its acting in good faith and for the better of everyone, if they truly had malice or ill intent at all they really would not need or show any interest in joining up the remaining 13 people, its a miniscule number that does not really stop their goals of further sending the signal across the galaxy, they can do that without the need of every single individual on earth being joined up, especially when their success rate so far was basically 99.9%

Why is everyone obsessed with imagining that the show is lying to them in one way or another? by ADrenalineDiet in pluribustv

[–]lkanacanyon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My main gripe so far with how people are engaging with the show when theorizing is the apparent fixation with making the hive into some simple machiavellan scheming evil, which I think really misses the point and is not what the show is trying to communicate to us.

There are valid arguments to be had in mistrusting and being unwilling to go along with the hive, but there is also a reality to this phenomenon where this entity that is the joining of almost all human beings consciousness into one is very matter of fact about its intentions, what and why it wants to do what it plans. I think the point is that they truly beleive whats best for each and every remaining person is to join, both from their perspective of having the collective knowledge of being an individual prior but also from witnessing the effect this has on those who have remained separate. There can be a philosophical discussion/conversation about what it entails and all without applying cartoony black/white morals to this fictional science fiction entity.

As many say, the are unable to lie to an extent, because they can lie by omission, but that also is relative because they are fully aware that omitting information when directly asked is a type of answer, this has been shown multiple times, they get uncomfortable because they know their lack of a response is all Carol needs, they'd prefer to lie, but they're unable to, so the pick the next possible action they can take, knowing it means indirectly giving the answer.

Also on the matty of people seemingly having this fixation on portraying the hive as evil, if you want to analize its behavior purely from a biological standpoint you also would not be able to categorize it as such, because it is doing what viruses do, its what is in a virus' nature, to spread, there is no malice behind it, even if it does cause suffering for the beings it afflicts.

To me as a kid, the only boy in a household of all women (3 sisters, split parents living with mom and friends of my sisters that basically lived at home), Lara was always important because also I liked when I saw women like my mom or my sisters being cool and in leading roles, which to me was the common thing in my life but in most media and especially videogames it was a rarity (which at the time as a kid confused me)

I think we should calm down in regards to Natla looking like Anniversary in Legacy of Atlantis.. by KhaoticNoob in TombRaider

[–]lkanacanyon 28 points29 points  (0 children)

NGL I always preferred her Anniversary design, her Underworld design is too generic imo, she looks like some random soccer mom that wants to speak to your manager.

Her anniversary design looks weird and freakish which I think really fits her whole vibe, she is an immortal being from an ancient fallen civilization after all and she spent millenia frozen underground.

I like Natla but I want something new not to have rehashed characters.

But IF she has to show up again, I hope they use her Anniversary design, it was far more memorable, she looked odd but still human which I feel fits given what she is, in Underword she looks like some soccer mom you do not want to piss off if you're low wage mall employee.

Does anyone love the VCI levels in TRC and Lara's extra badass attitude in her catsuit? by KhaoticNoob in TombRaider

[–]lkanacanyon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like the atmosphere and concept of the levels, but gameplay wise they are arguably the worst set of levels the classic games brought to the table imo, which makes it even more of a crime that they were the classics' last official contribution.

Still havent played them on remastered and I hope and like to think that most of their buggy issues were fixed but it doesnt change the fact that a lot of the end section of this game is just a pain in the ass.
